The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of adjunctive apatite carbonate membrane on pocket depth and clinical attachment loss in chronic periodontitis. The research method was a randomized control trial, double-blind, and split mouth, the examination carried out before and after the treatment. Parameters examined including pocket depth and clinical attachment loss. The study samples were chronic periodontitis patients that came to Periodontics Clinic of Faculty of Dentistry Padjadjaran University Dental Hospital, consisted of 11 male and 11 female patients with the mean of ageof 48,6-years.All patients were treated withscalingand root planing followed by the application of apatite carbonate membrane in the deepest pockets of selected teeth, then covered by periodontal pack. Clinical examination was also carried outon the 30 th day. Data analysis was tested by Wilcoxon test. The results from the clinical examination of the gingiva before treatment (H 0) were as follows: the mean of pocket depth on both treatment and control group was 6 mm; the clinical attachment loss on both treatment and control group was 7 mm. The results from clinical examination after treatment (D 30) were as follows: the mean of pocket depth on both treatment and control group was 3 mm; the clinical attachment loss on treatment group was 4.5 mm and on control group was 4 mm. The difference mean of pocket depth (PD) and attachment loss (AL) at D 0 compared to D 30 wassignificant (p<0.001).Conclusion: Apatite carbonate membrane as an adjunctive therapy after scaling and root planing had significant effects on pocket depth and clinical attachment loss resulted in the PD and CAL reduction in chronic periodontitis.
Background: A normal gingiva is generally “salmon” pink in color. Varying degrees of brownish pigmentation in gingiva may be seen in Blacks (seldom also in Caucasians). Those who exhibit gingival hyperpigmentation face aesthetic problems. Objective: To describe the treatment of gingival hyperpigmentation in a 29-yearold male attending the Department of Periodontics Clinic, Universitas Padjadjaran, exhibiting excessive staining on the gums of the right to left canine region of the upper and lower jaw. Case Report: This gingival hyperpigmentation case was managed through a conventional method of using scalpel. Results: Gingiva that had excessive staining in this case was eliminated and exhibited good aesthetic. Conclusion: The conventional management of gingival hyperpigmentation is still the best choice to solve an aesthetic problem with a simpler and safer technique, and at more affordable costs. Keywords: gingival hyperpigmentation, gum excessive staining, conventional gingival surgery
Prevalence of dental and oral diseases in Indonesia is high and tend to continue to increase. This study aims to determine the level of oral health knowledge of grade V and VI students at Tanjungsari III Elementary School in Sumedang City. Methods: This research is a quantitative descriptive study with cross-sectional research design using questionnaire. The study population was students at Tanjungsari III Elementary School with a total of 62 students (26 male and 36 female). Analysis of the data in this study was quantitative descriptive analysis techniques with percentages using three assessment categories, named: High, Medium, and Low. Results: The results of the study of the level of knowledge about oral health of students mostly in the medium category amounted to 69.35% with a total of 43 students. Whereas in the high category it was 14.52% with a total of 9 students, the low category was 16.13% with a total of 10 students. Conclusions: The level of oral health knowledge of the fifth and sixth grade students of Tanjungsari III Elementary School in Sumedang was the medium category. Continuous education and preventive measures to prevent oral diseases early were needed on elementary school students.
