For various ailments, natural remedies have been traditionally used. To defend against common disorders, medicinal plants are progressively used as nutritional supplements. Gingivitis and periodontitis are widespread and can affect most of the world’s population. Gingivitis is a very common, nondestructive inflammatory disease of gums that causes redness and irritation of the gingiva (gums), but periodontitis causes permanent damage to teeth’ subsidiary structures. Herbal medicines are getting popular for the treatment of such types of disorders due to being economical with their medicinal effectiveness, compatibility, and nontoxicity. Traditional chemical therapies can cause cell toxicity along with their disease-curing effects. In this article, we discussed the medicinal plants that can be used as an alternative for the treatment of gingivitis (early-stage gum disease) and periodontitis (chronic-stage gum disease).
A vast variety of pharmaceutical research is directed at developing new dosage form. Orally disintegrating dosage form is the widely preferred commercial product among the various dosage forms. The oral cavity is the most favorable site for administration of orally disintegrating dosage form due to the ease of ingestion. Oral route is used for the administration of various dosage forms such as orally d isintegrating tablets , films, patches, wafers, chewing gums etc. In the recent trend orally disintegrating tablets gaining popularity because it is easy to admin ister and doesn't requires additional water. Chewable tablets are palatable and can be chewed before swallowing. The orally disintegrating films can be administered in the oral cavity and disintegrates within a second to give better theuraptic action. Chewing gums are used for local and systemic treatment. Su itable drug candidates for such system include cardiovascular agents , neuroleptics, analgesic, antiallergics and drug for erectile dysfunction. Such a dosage form d isintegrates quickly when placed on tongue; release the drug that dissolves in saliva. This results in greater bioavailability and rapid onset of action than conventional dosage form 1 . ORALLY DIS INTEGRATING TAB LETS :The centre for drug evaluation and Research defines orally disintegrating tablets as a dosage form -"A solid dosage form wh ich disintegrates rapidly within a matter of seconds when placed under the tongue". The disintegrating time for orally disintegrating tablet varies fro m seconds to minutes, depends upon the size of tablet and formulation. European pharmacopeia defined orally disintegrating tablets as-"Uncovered tablet which disperse before ingestion in the buccal cavity". Different technological techniques such as freeze drying or moulding or direct compression etc.are used to prepare the formulat ion of this type in the pharmaceutical market 2 DES IRED CHARACTERIS TICS OF ODT:1] Bioavailability 2] Rap id drug therapy intervention is possible 4. 3] Sufficient mechanical strength 4] A llo w h igh drug loading 9. 5] Rap id onset of theuraptic action 6] Good compatib ility with develop ment technology 7. 7] Leaves no residue in mouth after oral ad ministration 8] Stability 9] Conventional packaging and processing equipments allo ws the manufacturing of tablets at low cost 4, 9. 10] Be co mpatib le with taste masking and other excipients ADVANTAGES OF ODT:1] It can be ad ministered to the patient who cannot swallow conventional dosage form such as bedridden patients, elderly and patient effected by renal failure and thus improves patient compliance 6. 2] It is suitable for bedridden, disabled, traveler and busy persons who does not contain water every time 5. 3] Good mouth feel property helps to mask the bitterness of medicines. 4] Rap id drug therapy intervention. 5] It provides rapid absorption of drugs and increased bioavailability. ABS TRACT:Oral route is the most convenient route for drug administration due to the highest component of compliance m...
Background: Eutectics are basically multi-component crystalline solids closely related to solid solutions. However, the structural organization of eutectics has not been studied in as much detail as solid solutions, which are defined based on the arrangement of a major (solvent) and a minor (solute) component in the crystal lattice. Purpose: The goal of this study is basically improvement in aqueous solubility of poorly water soluble drug i.e curcumin via its eutectic formation by using salicylic acid as coformer. Material and Method: Here the eutectic mixture of curcumin and salicylic acid was prepared by solvent evaporation technique for improving the dissolution behaviour of curcumin. DSC and FT-IR spectroscopy were used as analytical techniques for characterization of eutectic mixture. Result: The DSC and FT-IR spectroscopy conformed the formation of eutectic mixture and In-Vitro dissolution studies revealed an improved dissolution behaviour for eutectic mixture (69.38 %) as compared to the pure curcumin (40.53%). Conclusion: The study conclude that binary systems improved the dissolution behaviour of poorly water soluble drugs without changing the physiochemical and pharmacological properties of concerned API.
Cancer is a fatal disease, with a collection of related diseases in various body parts. The conventional therapies cannot show the desired results of treatment due to their imprecise targeting, deprived drug delivery, and side effects. Therefore, it is required to make the drug engineered in such a way that it can target only cancerous cells and can inhibit its growth and proliferation. Nanotechnology is a technology that can target and differentiate between cancerous cells and the normal cells of the body. Silver itself is a good anticancer and antibacterial agent and employing it with phytochemicals having anticancer properties, and nanotechnology can give the best approach for the treatment. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles using plant extracts is an economical, energy-efficient, low-cost approach and it doesn’t need any hazardous chemicals. In the present review, we discussed different methods of synthesis of silver nanoparticles using herbal extracts and their role against cancer therapy along with the synergistic role of silver and plant extracts against cancer in the formulation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
