This study aims to describe the process of developing an electronic module based on discovery learning for writing explanation text theory that is valid, practical, and effective. The type of study is Research and Development (R&D). The development model used in this research is the 4D model, which includes 4 steps of development, that is define, design, development, disseminate. This research uses qualitative and quantitative data. The validity test results show that the developed electronic module is considered to be very valid. Practicality test results show that the electronic modules developed are considered very practical by teachers and students. The effectiveness test results show that the electronic module is considered to be very effective to use, this is based on the value obtained from the knowledge and performance tests.
The use of language in communication process is not limited to its function as a tool for delivering information, but also as an important tool for maintaining social relations. This can be realized with the use of the right language, one of which is by including the euphemism. This study aimed to describe the use of euphemism and its background in the headlines of Haluan February 2018 edition. The method used in this study is descriptive method. The results showed that the use of euphemism on research subjects was in the form of figurative expressions, flippancy, circumlocutions, abbreviations, one for one substitution, hyperbole, and jargon. The background of the use of euphemism was interpreted to: (1) avoid the use of some words that can cause panic and fear; (2) be nonoffensive, insulting, or demeaning to others; (3) decrease or to not mention something hurtful or tragic; (4) appear diplomatic or rhetorical; (5) replace taboo, vulgar, prohibited and negative words; (6) keep a secret; (7) respect others; (8) give critics politely.
This study aims to find reference grammatical cohesion forms used to construct narrative discourse. This research method is a descriptive method with qualitative research. Based on the results of data analysis it was found that the reference grammatical forms of cohesion found in the March 2015 edition of Kompas Sunday's short story collection included personal, demonstrative, and comparative references. The persona reference found is person reference I consists of aku, saya, ku-, -ku, kita, and kami. The persona II reference consists of kamu, kau, -mu, and kalian. As well as reference persona III consists of ia, dia, -nya, beliau, and mereka. The demonstrative form of grammatical cohesion is found in kini, sekarang, saat ini, kala itu, dulu, siang itu, sore itu, hari itu, hari ini, di sana, di sini, ke sana, ke mana, sana, ini, and itu. As well, a comparative form of grammatical cohesion found is seperti.
