The Switched Reluctance Motor has a very high torque to weight ratio which can be further increased by using a novel double-sided axial-flux configuration as proposed here. By virtue of its mechanical construction this configuration is suitable for direct wheel drive application. Results of magnetic analysis of and experiments on a laboratory prototype (8/6 pole, 500 VA, 12 Volt, rated 100 RPM) with single-sided-excitation along with hardware set-up is presented here. Experimental results of current chopping, advance angle variation & a speed controller based on voltage control is presented alongside. This novel setup has been fully designed and fabricated, along with power electronic converter, in the laboratory.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
