13C CP/MAS NMR and FE/TEM measurements of the aragonite brick of the nacreous layer of Pinctada fucata indicate that it assembles with highly oriented aragonite nanocrystals, which are regulated by biopolymers.
The growth of SiOx nanofibers on FeSi substrates with Ga droplets was examined. It is found that well-aligned, highly oriented nanofibers were grown in an orderly fashion with a high density from the substrates. Though the length of the nanofibers depends on the growth time and the growth temperature, their diameters were about 20 nm throughout the nanofibers grown under the examined growth conditions. The nanofibers are amorphous SiOx, and eliminate the broad photoluminescence around 460 nm.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
