The equilibrium of N204 with N02 has been determined in cyclohexane, carbon tetrachloride, and acetonitrile The equilibrium constants and enthalpies for N204 dissociation at 298°K have been determined and are respectively, 1.77 X 10-4 and 14.6 kcal in cyclohexane and carbon tetrachloride and 0.30 X 10-4 and 16 kca in acetonitrile. These data are compared with the gas-phase values of 1.51 X 10-1 and 13.64 kcal for N20 dissociation. The differences in gas and solution thermodynamics are discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
