Considering the importance of learning English since early ages, some elementary schools in Jambi City administer English as one of the local contents. However, based on the preliminary observation, many students encountered a number of problems in learning English that needs further exploration. This study aims at finding out problems faced by the elementary schools students in Jambi City in learning English. This study used a descriptive method taking teachers and students from seven elementary schools in Jambi City as the respondents. The data were collected using questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were distributed to the students through Google form, and the interviews were conducted to teachers of the seven elementary schools. The data were analyzed quantitatively. The results show that the problems faced by the students are: (i) lack of vocabulary; (ii) pronunciation difficulties; (iii) unexpected learning atmosphere; and (iv) less motivation. The findings suggest the need of more creative teachers who are technologically literate and easily adaptable to the students' problems in learning English.
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi fenomena semakin memudarnya pengetahuan masyarakat tentang kearifan lokal yang telah menjadi karakter dan filosofi hidup mereka, yaitu membatik. Oleh karena itu, perlu ada upaya untuk terus menggali dan memproteksi kearifan lokal. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan psikologi pendidikan. Subyek penelitian adalah Kepala Sekolah, guru mata pelajaran batik, Pengawas Sekolah serta siswa kelas V dan kelas VI. Teknik pengumpulan datanya meliputi observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Adapun teknik analisis data melalui pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data serta penarikan kesimpulan. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh hasil bahwa proses pembelajaran berbasis kearifan lokal membatik di MI Maarif Giriloyo I dilaksanakan melalui tahap perencanaan (mencakup program tahunan, program semester, silabus, dan RPP); pelaksanaan terdiri atas kegiatan pendahuluan, inti (meliputi eksplorasi, elaborasi, konfirmasi), dan penutup; evaluasi pembelajaran melalui observasi, penilaian diri, dan penilaian antarteman. Sedangkan nilai-nilai karakter religius yang dikembangkan dalam pembelajaran berbasis kearifan lokal membatik di MI Maarif Giriloyo I antara lain: pertama, melalui penciptaan motif batik sebagai pesan dan doa atau harapan yang ditujukan kepada Allah SWT. Kedua, pengembangan karakter religius siswa terintegrasi dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran di kelas terdiri atas kegiatan pendahuluan, inti, dan penutup.
This research aimed to find out whether there is a difference in English achievement between students who have experience of studying English at elementary school for more than 4 years and students who do not have such experience. This research was quantitative research and a comparative analysis techniquehas been employed. The participants of the research were the first grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Kota Jambi academic year 2017/2018. The sample of this research comprised of 50 experienced students and 50 non-experienced students. In analyzing the data,normality and homogeneity,t-test was used to establish the significant data. The result of analysis data between variable X1 and X2 used SPSS 16 for Windows showed that the value of to (tobservation) was 3.36. In the t-table, score degree of significance of 5% is 1.98 and score degree of significance of 2.50% is 2.28. It can be concluded that t o was higher than t-table (3.36 > 2.28). It means that experienced students and non-experienced students have significant difference in their English achievement.
The process of learning practices during the COVID-19 pandemic has to be replaced with the use of online learning or long distance learning. It is a challenging task for teachers, students and parents as well. They will follow the process of online learning by using various kind of learning application that should be connected to internet access. The implementation of the applications will appear some issues or challenges for the all education agents particularly the teachers. This study conducted through library research method. Therefore, the researcher collected the data based on the information and explanation from books, articles, journals or others printed materials which related to the topic of the study. This article explains some challenges faced by the teachers during the process of learning English through implementation of E-learning application especially in providing feedback for the students at first grade junior high school. The researcher focused on the first grade students' because as the beginner learner in learning English, they truly need effective feedback from the teachers although they do not join the learning practices in the classroom. The researcher found that the teachers had some problems in ensuring the students' understanding, students' motivation, and students' involvement also the internet services, etc.
