This study intended to fill the gap of undergraduates’ academic motivation in Malaysia and Indonesia where, to date, little study has been done. It investigated and compared undergraduates’ academic motivation levels in English online classes in two universities in both countries. Online questionnaires on students’ self-regulated learning (SRL) and self-efficacy towards online learning adapted from Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) were distributed to 206 undergraduates from University A in Malaysia and 174 undergraduates from University B in Indonesia. Switching from physical traditional to online classes is the new norm that could be challenging and demotivating, but the results showed that the students from both universities achieved mostly high mean scores of the SRL and self-efficacy items. This indicated that their academic motivation levels were high, they were in control over their learning process, and have positive perceptions towards online classes. This uniformity also implied that although English is a second language in Malaysia, and a foreign language in Indonesia, the undergraduates were not affected by their linguistics, and institutional contexts. This study has contributed towards the extension of the current knowledge involving undergraduates’ academic motivation towards learning English online and suggested that teachers could help to strategise students’ SRL and self-efficacy to increase their English language performances, particularly in the pandemic era. Further research could explore the effects of academic motivation on learning outcomes or language performance as this could assist teachers to improve learners’ English proficiency in online classes.
Every year, high school students response to choosing a science stream has indicated a declining pattern. It may be due to the lack of technical application of science that students cannot foresee, thus preventing them from having a clear vision of how science and technology could greatly help daily human life. The study aims to assess the knowledge of high school students through STEM education via a project-based learning method using the hydroponic kit. Seventy students from a government school in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia, participated in this study. The questionnaire was then evaluated based on the scores and displayed improvement. The mean score for the pre-test of general knowledge was M=3.8857, SD=1.41977, and then it increased to M=6.1857, SD=1.21932 for the post-test. In addition, the mean score for the pre-test of hydroponic system advantages was M=6.2000, SD=1.93068, which increased to M=8.8286, SD=0.65875 for the post-test. Meanwhile, the mean score for the pre-test of disadvantages of the hydroponic system was M=7.2571, SD=2.21121, subsequently increasing to M=9.4286, SD=0.73369 for the post-test. Finally, the mean score for the pre-test of practical knowledge was M=9.3429, SD=2.51307, and then increased to M=15.0571, SD=1.84065 for the post-test. Students’ responses to the tests indicated that their interest in the field of science has increased through their involvement in the hydroponic kit project.
Effective interpersonal communication between patients and the medical practitioners has always been the medium for information exchange between both parties. This qualitative research is conducted to determine how the medical practitioners react to the patients' complaints in any given medical interaction settings. The data for the entire research were obtained through indepth interviews, conducted with six informants. The purposive sampling method was utilized to determine the appropriate informants to be chosen with the traits of a psychiatric patient diagnosed with any psychiatric complication. The data were analysed by deriving themes from the in-depth interviews using thematic analysis method. The data acquired from the informants have contributed to a few themes which have indicated the medical practitioners' reaction to the patients' complaints. Based on the findings, the researcher has concluded that the medical practitioners involved in treating the informants were not responsive enough to the patients' complaint.

ABSTRACT. This qualitative study focuses on the semantical interpretation of the post-electoral newspaper reporting in gaining the legitimacy from the citizens. The study is being addressed through two research questions: 1) what are the semantical interpretation of the newspaper articles' headlines in the mainstream and the oppositions' newspapers? 2) What are the issues highlighted in the newspaper during the post-electoral period of the 13th General Election? The data for the entire research were obtained through the mainstream newspapers which are Utusan Malaysia, Kosmo and Harian Metro and also the opposition's newspaper represented by Harakah. The data were also collected based on the newspapers that were published after the Election Day has ended. However, the newspapers were not collected daily as the researcher has chosen a few newspapers that contained the traits of having portrayed electoral campaign. The data were analysed using the thematic analysis by deriving themes from the content analysis of the newspapers. The findings were divided into two sections which are semantical interpretations of newspaper articles' headlines during post-electoral period and issues highlighted in the political campaigns. The researcher has come to a conclusion that both mainstream and opposition based newspapers were portraying improper political headlines during the post-electoral period.
