This article has the aim of discussing parental involvement in children's learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. To collect information, the author reviewed the literature that discusses learning from home, the role of parents in parenting, and the role of teachers in the process learning in school. The main results of this article are highlight the need to understand how parents should be involved and collaborate with teachers so that children still get optimal learning during a pandemic. Teachers and parents need commitment and clear communication between each other, so that parents understand the achievements that need to be developed by children and school programs are achieved properly.
Indonesia adalah negara kepulauan terbesar di dunia yang dikenal dengan keragaman etnis dan budayanya. Dalam mengelola keragaman ini, paradigma pembangunan yang dapat memetakan persoalan dan mengembangkan berbagai program yang mengakar pada jati diri bangsa masih menjadi kebutuhan dan tantangan tersendiri. Kajian parenting lokal dilakukan salah satunya bertujuan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan tersebut. Melalui berbagai kajian parenting lokal diharapkan akan tergali berbagai khazanah kekayaan di Indonesia dalam bidang pengasuhan anak. Tujuan artikel ini adalah memaparkan rumusan model etnoparenting di Indonesia, yang memiliki 4 elemen utama yaitu nilai Ketuhanan, nilai utama jati diri manusia, kepedulian terhadap alam dan lingkungan serta sikap gotong royong dan keterlibatan masyarakat dalam pengasuhan anak. Artikel ini merupakan systematic review yang mengolah data dari berbagai hasil penelitian, jurnal dan dokumen tertulis lainnya terkait kajian lokal dalam pengasuhan anak. Dalam artikel ini akan dibahas tentang rumusan model etnoparenting, yang diawali dengan paparan dinamika perkembangan kajian lokal di Indonesia.
Over the past 60 years, parenting style has been consistently explored, particularly with regard to its role in children's development in western society. Various studies show that authoritative parenting is the best and the most effective parenting style to be applied universally to support optimal children's development. This paper aims at exploring how the implementation of parenting style is highly affected by the cultural context of the society. Different cultural values reflected in individualist and collectivist cultures shape different understandings of parenting and thus different parenting styles. The two cultures perceive authoritative parenting style differently. To collect information, the author reviewed the literature on parenting practices in Asian, European, and American countries. The results of this paper highlight the need of having a better understanding on how the parenting style which is considered the best in one culture can be distinctly perceived by other cultures.
Sharenting is a habit of using social media to share content that disseminates pictures, videos, information, and parenting styles for their children. The purpose of this article is to describe the sharenting phenomenon that occurs among young parents, and the importance of parenting programs, rather than protecting children's privacy. Writing articles use a qualitative approach as a literature review method that utilizes various scientific articles describing the sharenting phenomenon in various countries. The findings show that sharenting behaviour can create the spread of children's identity openly on social media and tends not to protect children's privacy and even seems to exploit children. Apart from that, sharenting can also create pressure on the children themselves and can even have an impact on online crime. This article is expected to provide benefits to parents regarding the importance of maintaining attitudes and behaviour when sharing and maintaining children's privacy and rights on social media. This paper explores about how a storytelling, which has been convinced by many, as a practical learning approach to develop early childhood literacy ability, however together with the decreasing of storytelling culture in the society, it has now been lesser in use let alone to be considered as an effective learning method to practice in the kindergaren education upbringing. Nevertheless, storytelling is undoubtedly believed to improve children's literacy skills as it gives more rooms to identify new vocabulary, building imagination and exercising creative thinking. Simultaneously with research development on early childhood, there are some interesting results showing how significantly Dual Coding Theory has improved the ability on children reading comprehension. Dual Coding Theory is one of the cognitive theory developed by Allan Paivio, Professor of Psychology at the University of Western Ontario. This theory states that human being processes and stores information in two different subsystems, namely verbal and non-verbal (visual) which are correlated and work together. By exposing the entire sensory at early age, it will build an important foundation for a better understanding on the vocabulary and story ideas. It is with hope that through this article, the valuing of storytelling method by way of Dual Coding Theory can be elaborated and to position the importance of Dual Coding Theory in the development of children's literacy. It is also expected to have vivid implication on the improvement of teacher's motivation to reinforce the storytelling method in the kindergarten education as effort to set up a good literacy foundation.
