Abstract.A project to develop a blind football play-by-play system was started. The target of the system is visually impaired spectator. To conduct a basic study, we made an experimental system that detects a position of a player using a QuasiZenith Satellites System (QZSS) and shows the position via refreshable tactile display. The QZSS allows users to acquire more precise position information than only with GPS around Japan. The study showed that a certain possibility to acquire an arbitrary position data of the player in the field and display it to the tactile display.
Three experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of feature similarity and discrimination category in a flanker task. Gabor patches were used as target and distractor stimuli for each experiment. In the first experiment, the target turned to minus or plus 45 deg from the vertical, whereas the orientation of the distractors changed between minus and plus 45 deg by 15 deg. For the second experiment, three conditions of the target orientation were used: minus or plus 45 deg, minus 22.5 deg or plus 67.5 deg, and 0 deg or plus 90 deg. The orientation of the distractors changed between the orientations of the two targets by 22.5 deg. In the third experiment, the target turned to minus or plus 10 deg from the vertical, whereas the orientation of the distractors changed between minus and plus 40 deg by 5 deg. The results showed that responses to the target were affected by the difference between the orientations of the target and the distractors as well as the category of their orientations.
We have developed a vibration watch on a mobile phone for visually impaired people. This watch has some merits: It operates on a mobile phone which many people are always carrying. It does not have to adjust the time because it uses the time function of the mobile phone which is adjusted automatically. In this paper, first we decided the characteristic of the vibration watch. Next we did a experiment which recognizes the number of times of vibration in order to show the time. We found it was difficult for subjects to recognize five vibration or more. Using a long vibration which means 5 times, we were able to shorten the oscillating interval which can recognize the number of times of vibration. Finaly we constituted the vibration watch on a mobile phone and we had confirmed that the watch function operated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
