We measure the time dependence of the ratio of decay rates for the rare decay D{0}-->K{+}pi{-} to the Cabibbo-favored decay D{0}-->K{-}pi;{+}. A signal of 12.7x10;{3} D{0}-->K{+}pi{-} decays was obtained using the Collider Detector at Fermilab II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron with an integrated luminosity of 1.5 fb;{-1}. We measure the D0-D[over ]{0} mixing parameters (R_{D},y{'},x{'2}), and find that the data are inconsistent with the no-mixing hypothesis with a probability equivalent to 3.8 Gaussian standard deviations.
The energy loss spectrum of 150 GeV muons has been measured with a prototype of the ATLAS hadron calorimeter in the H8 beam of the CERN SPS. The differential probability dP/d upsilon per radiation length of a fractional energy loss upsilon = Delta E(mu)E(upsilon) has been measured in the range upsilon = 0.01 divided by 0.95; it is compared with the theoretical predictions for energy losses due to bremsstrahlung and production of electron-positron pairs or of energetic knock-on electrons. The integrated probability integral(0.01)(0.95)(dP/d upsilon)d upsilon is (1.610 +/- 0.015(stat) +/- 0.105(syst)). 10(-3) in agreement with the theoretical predictions 1.556 . 10(-3) and 1.619 . 10(-3). Agreement with theory is also found in two intervals of upsilon where production of electron-positron pairs and knock-on electrons dominates. In the region of bremsstrahlung dominance (upsilon = 0.12 divided by 0.95) the measured integrated probability (1.160 +/- 0.040(stat) +/- 0.075(syst)). 10(-4) is in agreement with the theoretical value of 1.185 . 10(-4), obtained using the Petrukhin and Shestakov description of the bremsstrahlung process. The same result is about 3.6 standard deviations (defined as the quadratic sum of statistical and systematic errors) lower than the theoretical prediction of 1.472 . 10(-4) obtained using Tsai's description of bremsstrahlung
Performance and characteristics of a large volume electronic track detector, time projection chamber (TPC), are described. The spatial resolution in the Z (vertical) direction is 0.2 mm, in the Y (horizontal) direction is 1 mm and the double track resolution in the Y- and Z-direction is 4.5 mm and 10 mm, respectively. A possible utilization of the TPC for experiments with heavy ions is discussed.
Results of the measurements with cosmic muons for the light yield of 2-meter long extruded scintillation bar (strip) as a function of distance for different options for light collection technique are presented. Scintillation strip cross section geometry was a triangle made on polystyrene plastic scintillator with dopants of 2% PTP and 0.03% POPOP, extruded with 2.6 mm diameter hole and produced at ISMA (Kharkov, Ukraine). It was shown that the insertion of the optical transparent resin (BC-600 or CKTN-MED(E) ) by special technique into the co-extruded hole with 1.0 mm or 1.2 mm wavelength shifter (WLS) fiber Kuraray Y11 (200) MC in it significantly improves light collection by factor of 1.6…1.9 against of the "dry" case.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
