School as center of adolescent social life has an important role to help students to achieve well-being. But in fact, adolescence is often vulnerable to individual problems such as stress, anxiety, and self-destructive behavior. The current study examined the mediation effect of state and trait anxiety in the association between school burnout and well-being. State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), School Burnout Inventory (SBI), and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) was administered to 192 vocational high school students. Mediator analysis using bias corrected bootstrap method N = 5000 and 95% confidential interval on PROCESS software. The results show that school burnout as predictors on well-being students only indirectly via state and trait anxiety. These findings can be beneficial to our understanding of how and when state and trait anxiety impacts student"s well-being, and have implication for development guidance and counseling programs to improve student"s well-being.
Ethnic identity is an important component of the self-concept, which contributes to the formation of attitudes toward other groups. The current study focuses on Javanese and Chinese as two ethnic groups who are majority and minorities in Indonesia, purpose to investigate the direct and indirect effect between ethnic identity and othergroup orientation moderated by ethnicity. The multi-group ethnic identity measure (MEIM) was administered to 300 high school students (Javanese students N= 157; Chinese students, N= 143) and analyzed using Hayes PROCESS software. The results show that ethnic identity and ethnicity have direct effect on other-group orientation. Ethnicity also has significant effect as a moderator. These findings have implication to development guidance and counseling programs and improve other-group orientation on Javanese and Chinese students.
Kompetensi profesional Guru BK yang senantiasa perlu ditingkatkan adalah menguasai kerangka teoretik dan praksis bimbingan dan konseling. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kompetensi profesional guru BK di Kota Salatiga melalui pelatihan konseling motivational interviewing (MI) berbasis local wisdom budaya Jawa. Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilakasanan kepada 40 peserta selama dua hari tatap muka pada tanggal 31 Juli dan 1 Agustus 2018. Berdasarkan hasil analisis menggunakan margin mean dipahami bahwa ada peningkatan pemahaman peserta pelatihan dengan rentang margin skor 1,8. Pelatihan ini memberikan implikasi bagi guru BK untuk menerapkan pendeketan konseling MI ketika pemberian layanan konseling di sekolah.
Some Western counseling approaches are not applicable in local cultures. Consequently, counselors have to accommodate the local culture to improve the efficacy of their services. This research aims to formulate indigenous counseling based on the Javanese culture of Dasa Pitutur from Sunan Kalijaga. Using that culture, the counselors are expected to improve the participants' cultural skills and respect for other cultures. It used the hermeneutic method with discourse analysis to interpret the messages' structure and pragmatic. The analysis result signifies that the Dasa Pitutur values are relevant with the other group orientation. The primary message taught in Dasa Pitutur is encouraging humans to comprehend their life journey and position to willingly and voluntarily accept their obligations and nature. Linear to their position as a social creature, they have to be aware of the essential values from their relationship, dependency, and appreciation toward other humans. This study can be an enrichment material of cultural values-based guidance and counseling science.
Abstract-Counsellors' personal quality is an important factor that supports the effectiveness of the school counselling services. The purpose of this study is to describe the counsellors' personal quality from educational qualification, gender, and working experience. The counsellors' personal quality scale was administered to 24 teachers from six schools in Semarang. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, non-parametric statistics Mann Whitney U Test and Kruskal-Wallis Test. The results showed that, in general, school counsellor had medium level of personal quality. There were no significant different of counsellors' personal quality in educational qualification, gender, and working experience. These findings have implication for developing school counsellor education program which currently only focus on intervention strategies. The program should also focus on counsellors' personal quality development. Also required personal and professional development design for school counselors to avoid burnout and stagnation in the work.
