Wuchereria bancrofti dikenal sebagai penyebab filariasis limfatik di Kota Pekalongan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan untuk mencari upaya dalam pengendalian penularan filariasis limfatik yang lebih efektif dan efisien. Tujuan penelitian untuk mendiskripsikan perilaku mikrofilaria Wuchereria bancrofti yang ditularkan oleh Culex quinquefasciatus. Uji periodisitas dilakukan pada enam orang relawan yang positif mengandung mikrofilaria hasil survei darah. Pengambilan darah dilakukan setiap dua jam sekali selama 24 jam (12 kali pengamatan). Uji periodisitas cacing filaria menggunakan formula Aikat dan Das . Hasil survei darah menunjukkan dari 500 sampel darah sebanyak 17 orang positif mikrofilaria (mf rate = 3,4%). Sebagian besar mikrofilaria muncul antara pukul 22.6'36" sampai 03.56'24" yang menggambarkan periodisitas mikrofilaria Wuchereria bancrofti yang nokturnal. Kasus filariasis limfatik memiliki gelombang yang harmonik atau sirkardian dengan indeks periodisitas lebih dari 100%. Hasil penelitian ini akan sangat membantu dalam mengevaluasi dan memantau program pengobatan massal yang sedang berjalan untuk eliminasi filarisis limfatik di Kota Pekalongan.
Development of gamma irradiated high moisture traditional dishes derived from locally traditional récipe aimed for specific target groups as ready to eat foods for ensuring the safety, quality, and security purposes have been conducted. The formation of free radicals in the traditional foods induced by ionizing radiation is a part of toxicological studies on irradiated traditional foods was to provide local scientific data base on safety issues.The different foods such as steamed gold fish, spicy curry beef and soy sauces beef were individually vacuum packed in a laminate pouch of PET 12 μm/LDPE 2 μm/AL-Foil 7 μm/LDPE 2 μm/LLDPE 50 μm (PET/Al-Foil/LLDPE), then kept at frozen state. The frozen samples were maintained in cryogenic condition along the irradiation process by placing the samples in styrofoam boxes filled with dry ice then irradiated with gamma rays at the dose of 45 kGy. The irradiated samples were kept and stored at normal temperature prior to test. Both irradiated conventional rat's feed at normal temperature with the dose of 4 kGy and unirradiated one as control were also made. Irradiated and unirradiated samples were sent to animal laboratory, and fed into individual female Sprague Dawley rat as member of a group. The parameters observed were body weight changed of rats, toxicological test to observe the effect free radicals formation in rat's blood by using malon-dialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) methods, respectively, and anatomy pathology diagnosis. Different types of the foods sterilized by ionizing radiation fed ad libitum to the individual Sprague Dawley rat demonstrated that such foods did not give any adverse effect on the reduction of body weight, the toxicological impact, nor anatomypathology examinations of the rats.
Latar belakang: Kelangsungan hidup nyamuk merupakan aspek yang penting dalam penularan penyakit tular vektor. Culex quinquefasciatus merupakan vektor filariasis limfatik yang disebabkan oleh wuchereria bancrofti. Pengetahuan kehidupan nyamuk berperan penting dalam keberhasilan program pengendalian vektor. Tujuan penelitian ini mendiskripsikan tabel hidup nyamuk Cx. quinquefasciatus di laboratorium.Metode: Penelitian diawali dengan koleksi larva Cx. quinquefasciatus di Kota Pekalongan, kemudian diidentifikasi dan kolonisasi dalam kondisi laboratorium. Parameter yang diukur meliputi masa inkubasi, ekslosi, eksdisis, ketahanan hidup, laju reproduksi, waktu generasi dan laju pertumbuhan intrinsik. Hasil: Cx. quinquefasciatus mempunyai siklus hidup 12.5 hari. Umur telur, larva, dan pupa masing-masing adalah 2.07; 10.2; dan 2.25 hari. Nyamuk jantan mempunyai ketahanan hidup yang lebih pendek dibandingkan betina. Laju reproduksi bersih (Ro) sebesar 196.75, laju pertumbuhan intrinsik 0.35 dan waktu generasi (T) 14.91 hari.Simpulan: Pertumbuhan populasi Cx. quinquefasciatus dapat diatur dan dikendalikan oleh kelulusan hidup dan mortalitas. This study was originated from the collecting larve of Cx. quinquefasciatus from Pekalongan City, which were then identified and colonized under laboratory conditions. Parameters measured include the incubation period, ekslosi, eksdisis, survival rate, reproduction rate, and generation time.Results:The results showed that Cx. quinquefasciatus has a 12.5 day life cycle. Egg, larva, and pupa respectively were 2.07; 10.2; and 2.25 days. The males have a shorter survival period compared to the females. The net reproductive rate (Ro) was 196.75; the intrinsic growth rate (rm) was 0.35 and the average generation time (T) was 14.91 days.Conclusion : The population growth of Culex quinquefasciatus can be regulated and controlled by life graduation and mortality

Effects ofionizing radiation on tempe pasta selectedas samples for patient food intake throughNaso Gastric Tube (NGT) has beenstudied. Tempe pasta was vacuum packedin a laminate pouch of po lyesteraluminumfoil- linear low densitypolyethylene and gamma irradiated atdoses of 10 kGy and 25 kGy , respectivelyunder cryogenic condition and then storedat room temperature for 6 and 12weeks. Some quality parameters wereobserved. There was no significantdifferences between un irradiated andirradiated tempe pasta on the moisturecontent, pH, protein content and viscosity.Meanwhile isojlavon genestein contentand antioxidant capacity showed anincrease by increasing irradiation dose upto 12 weeks of storage. Malonaldehydecontent in tempe pasta was accelerating byincreasing the irradiation dose andextending the storage period but Peroxidevalue was not detected in all treatedsamples.
