The main purpose of the study is to assess the level of financial capability of Russians by using the methodology of cross country comparison developed by the Russia Financial Literacy and Education Trust Fund. The paper gives a brief description of the methodology of financial literacy and financial capability measurements, as well as the results of the survey in Russia. From the analysis of the survey data, it is concluded that the weak areas of the financial capability of Russians concern issues related to planning of expenses and keeping these plans completed, creating reserves to pay for major planned or unexpected expenditures, lack of control over money spent using written records of incomes and expenses, developing regular saving habits, and lengthening time horizons.
Several approaches exist that help explain the motivations for corporate charity and philanthropy. Structural functionalism associates these to the idea of solidarity, according to institutional approach they provide legitimacy for businesses, critical theory implies that they play an ideological role in sustaining the leading position of the dominating social class. This paper complements the existing models by treating these phenomena as a patrimonial type of exchange between business and government: the state provides the opportunity for the companies to do business on its territory in exchange for their loyalty.
The article presents the justification of the methodology for studying the strategies of financial behavior of the population, the dynamics of their prevalence in Russia in the period 2009—2020, as well as the assessment of the influence of socio-demographic variables on the probability of having a financial strategy in the household. The analysis of the data obtained from “Monitoring of the financial behavior of the population” for 2009—2020 has demonstrated that the financial planning horizon of the majority of Russians does not exceed one year, about 50% of Russians have long-term financial goals, and about 30% have strategies to achieve them. A positive relationship has been revealed with a number of socio-demographic characteristics that fit into the logic of the life cycle: age, presence of children, higher education and income.
