“…This chance is ten times higher than for someone being B27 negative. If, however, a B27 positive individual has a relative also being B27 positive who also had AAU, the chance to develop the disease is even 13% [12]. This finding points to the existence of other genetic factors [13,14].…”

“…Furthermore, HLA-B27 AAU occurs in B27-positive members of the patients' families (approximately 10%) more frequently than in B27-positive healthy controls (1-2%). 5 Posterior segment involvement in HLA-B27-associated uveitis occurs somewhere between 4 and 17.4% in Caucasians. 2,6 Benitez del Castillo reported that the blood-aqueous barrier had been broken when HLA-B27-positive acute anterior uveitis was in active stage.…”

“…To our knowledge, this is the first case reported with retinal haemorrhages as a side effect of trimethoprim. HJA-B27 genotype is present in approximately 50% of patients with acute anterior uveitis compared with 8% in the normal population (Brewerton 1973) and the disease has been reported in 1% of otherwise normal HLA-B27 individuals (Derhaag 1988). HLA-B27 genotype may have increased the patient's susceptibility to uveitis in reaction to the drugs.…”
