A gradient-based hybrid image fusion scheme using object extraction

Abstract: This paper presents a new hybrid image fusion scheme that combines features of pixel and region based fusion, to be integrated in a surveillance system. In such systems, objects can be extracted from the different set of images due to background availability, and transferred to the new composite image with no additional processing usually imposed by other fusion approaches. The background information is then fused in a multi-resolution pixel-based fashion using gradient-based rules to yield a more reliable fea… Show more

“…By successively filtering and down sampling process, the image is fused. Then, the image pyramid has the original image as the pyramid base with successive levels that are low-pass filtered and down sampled view of the level below is generated (Ghantous et al, 2008).…”

“…Cada nível contém uma versão da imagem original filtrada por um filtro passa-baixas, denominada imagem de aproximação, e três imagens filtradas por filtros passa-altas (detalhes verticais, horizontais e diagonais) da imagem original, denominadas sub-imagens (imagens de detalhes) [6,7]. Os métodos de multi-resolução, em particular os que usam a transformada wavelet são os que produzem os melhores resultados no processo de fusão de imagens [8].…”

“…The fusion rule is applied in this case over the homogenous classes, allowing a better optimization of the fusion algorithm parameters. The obtained results are therefore more accurate, which implies that the coupling techniques can improve the global performances (Ghantous, Ghosh, and Bayoumi 2008;Yang and Blum 2006). Among the fast and accurate classification methods, we can cite the International Journal of Remote Sensing 7071…”

“…Moreover, for better results, fusion approaches are sometimes coupled with classification algorithms (Ghantous, Ghosh, and Bayoumi 2008;Yang and Blum 2006). The classification allows the decomposition of the image into homogeneous classes (Delleji, Zribi, and Hamida 2007).…”
