A novel synthesis of tin oxide thin films by the sol-gel process for optoelectronic applications

Abstract: A novel and simple chemical method based on sol-gel processing was proposed to deposit metastable orthorhombic tin oxide (SnOx) thin films on glass substrates at room temperature. The resultant samples are labeled according to the solvents used: ethanol (SnO-EtOH), isopropanol (SnO-IPA) and methanol (SnO-MeOH). The variations in the structural, morphological and optical properties of the thin films deposited using different solvents were characterized by X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, Raman spectr… Show more

“…The intensity of the Cu and Ag doped ZnO diffractions lines were decreased and a minor shift was also observed due to the substitution of Cu and Ag atoms in ZnO hexagonal lattices [40]. The crystallite size of the pure and doped samples were calculated from the Scherrer's formula [41],…”

“…Among these various approaches to improve device efficiency and stability, new charge‐transport materials have been demonstrated to be an effective approach . A series of efficient charge‐transport layers have been developed to satisfy the demands, including alkali salts, zwitterionic molecules, ionic liquids, n‐type metal oxides such as TiO x , ZnO, SnO x , Al‐doped ZnO, and Mg‐doped ZnO, neutral polymers (e.g., PEIE), and conjugated polyelectrolytes (e.g., PFN) . Among them, metal oxides are an important class of electron‐transport materials for inverted PSCs (i‐PSCs), and have attracted significant attention.…”

“…The precursor solvent such as methanol, ethanol, isopropanol and ethoxyethanol have found to greatly influence the structure property relationship for sol gel deposited films [21][22][23]. The use of different solvents has influence on the transmittance and average grain size of the sol gel coated metal oxide films [21,22]. The use of different solvents viz.…”
