A Reconstruction Method for the Estimation of Temperatures of Multiple Sources Applied for Nanoparticle-Mediated Hyperthermia

Abstract: Solid malignant tumors are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Many times complete removal is not possible and alternative methods such as focused hyperthermia are used. Precise control of the hyperthermia process is imperative for the successful application of such treatment. To that end, this research presents a fast method that enables the estimation of deep tissue heat distribution by capturing and processing the transient temperature at the boundary based on a bio-heat transfer model. The theore… Show more

“… The distribution of the MNPs can be determined using CT, MRI, SPECT, and PET, provided the MNPs are labeled with the appropriate radionuclide [ 138 , 151 , 167 , 197 , 198 ]. Alternatively, the magnetoacoustic properties of the MNPs can be used for localization [ 199 , 200 , 201 ]. This facilitates treatment planning, the modeling of the heating process and quality assurance.…”

“…We will not exhaust the reader with the detailed mathematical analysis and reconstruction algorithm that we developed. We will share with you one figure from Mr. Gil Tamir's thesis (Tamir, 2016) from the lab, and the paper that was published later (Steinberg et al, 2018). See Figure 16.…”
