Amateur vision and recreational orientation:

Abstract: We explore the use of a live video broadcast system by a group of amateur camera operators to film an event on networked cameraphones. Using an interaction analysis of physical interactions and orientations to the work of others, we examine their choice of camera angles and positions in their filming as they attempt to provide interesting visual content and a coherent narrative. Findings illustrate how users adapt their behaviour as co-ordination problems occur by drawing from a set of everyday visual practice… Show more

“…For this reason the study and design of video analysis software is a popular topic in information retrieval [3], computer human interaction [4][5][6][7], computer supported collaborative work [8][9][10], and visual analytics [11][12][13][14]. In this section, we discuss efforts most closely related to our goals and solutions in regards to our video analysis interface, backchannels for live-events, crowdsourced media annotation and tweet sentiment analysis.…”

“…Multiscreen applications, bespoke second screen experiences that augment and enhance programming with additional content, are one mechanism by which viewers consume synchronously between TV set and mobile computing device [5]. At the same time, the rise of user-generated video is bringing "traditional notions of the 'amateur' and 'professional' into question" as amateur content is an increasingly important part of media production and consumption [21]. In this paper we present an exploratory study of the confluence of these two trends to better understand collocated collaborative interaction and highlight implications for existing groupware research.…”

“…In HCI research, mobile video has received a substantial interest, such as in work describing the characteristics of mobile video use [26,30,35], investigations of new features and specific use domains for the next generation of usergenerated mobile video [17,10,8,13,44]. As a counterweight to the anticipation of Pro-Am video, Lehmuskallio et al, in a key study of everyday mobile video use, point to a slower and much more mundane development [30].…”

“…beginning and ending a clip smoothly, require more effort than e.g. taking a photograph [17,23,30,46]. In addition, filming requires a focus that may take attention away from attending an event [17,30].…”
