An Ultrashort Wavelength Multi/Demultiplexer via Rectangular Liquid-Infiltrated Dual-Core Polymer Optical Fiber

Abstract: We propose a rectangular liquid-infiltrated dual-core polymer optical fiber (POF) for short-range communication systems by the beam propagation method (BPM). The POF multi/demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX) at the wavelengths of 0.52/0.65-μm, 0.57/0.65-μm, and 0.52/0.57-μm are devised. The simulation results demonstrate that the ultrashort length of three ultrashort POF couplers are 183.6 μm, 288 μm, and 799.5 μm. Compared with the conventional optical fiber couplers, these results could have significant applications i… Show more

“…It was found that the birefringence is sensitive to the varying frequency. It was seen that the birefringence is about 1.91 × 10 −3 at the frequency of 1.2 THz, which is comparable to previous reports [ 16 , 68 , 73 , 77 ]. The high birefringence of the sensor can be obtained by introducing asymmetric defects such as a porous core.…”

“…On the other hand, short gratings can produce in-line fiber devices [40,45]. Until now, the inscription technology, which is based on photosensitive polymers and laser [54], allows for producing diffraction grating in undoped POF [51,55], POF with dopants [56,57], multicore POF [58], and multimode or single mode POF (SMPOF) [59]. Many ways of tuning optical parameters give us the fabrication of mPOF [43,60] (Figure 2).…”

“…PCF-based plasmonic devices have gained popularity because of their small size, versatility and controllability. Sensors [20], polarization filters [21], multiplexers-demultiplexers [22] and polarization splitters [23] are few examples of PCF-based plasmonic devices applications. In communication systems, a polarization filter is an essential element.…”
