Therefore, many authors have prioritized studies to measure the Human Development Index. However, these indexes do not analyze how Economic Complexity can increase Human Development. This paper aimed to determine how efficiently nations from Latin America and Asia measure a country's performance in converting Economic Complexity into Human Development, between 2010 and 2014. We used Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), through the Variable Returns of Scale (VRS) Model and Window Analysis. Results showed that in 2014, all Asian countries, except China and the Philippines, were efficient; on the other hand Cuba was the benchmark for inefficient countries. Window Analysis showed Japan, South Korea and Singapore were efficient over time. This result confirms the initial hypothesis of this article: the more complex countries are the more efficiently they create Human Development.

Estimating Relative Efficiency of Electricity Consumption in 42 Countries during the Period of 2008–2017

Augmentation of electrical equipment is pushing for an increase in energy supply sources all over the world, as electricity consumption (EC) typically rises with growing populations. The value of EC reveals economic development and degree of emissions. Therefore, this research uses the undesirable outputs model in data envelopment analysis (DEA) for estimating relative efficiency of electricity consumption in 42 countries from 2008 to 2017. According to the principle of an undesirable outputs model and studied objectives, variables are selected that included population and EC as inputs, gross domestic product (GDP) as desirable output, and carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) as undesirable outputs. The empirical results indicate that 420 terms of 42 countries during the period of 2008–2017 have 102 efficient and 310 inefficient terms. Moreover, the interplay level between input and output factors every year is presented via scores. The study suggests the effect of EC to human life and propounds the emission status to look for directions to overcome inefficient terms.

As câmaras frigorificas são equipamentos fundamentais para a conservação de alimentos perecíveis, garantindo a manutenção da qualidade dos produtos nas etapas do seu processamento e distribuição. O dimensionamento correto desse equipamento representa eficiência energética relacionada ao desempenho do resfriamento e congelamento. Este trabalho trata do desenvolvimento de um código computacional na plataforma EES (Engineering Equation Solver) para o estudo parametrizado aplicado a espessura do isolante térmico e a temperatura de entrada dos produtos alimentícios. O estudo parametrizado busca diagnosticar o melhor ponto de operação do ponto de vista da potência requerida pela unidade evaporadora da câmara. Foi verificado que a discrepância entre os regimes de máxima e mínima operação da câmara, representa uma redução de aproximadamente 20.19% do consumo energético da unidade evaporadora. Dessa forma, conclui-se que o estudo parametrizado pode resultar em diagnóstico de economia de energia para projetos de câmara frigorífica.
