Application of Fuzzy VIKOR for selection of rapid prototyping technologies in an agile environment

Abstract: Purpose -The purpose of this article is to report a research in which the applicability of Fuzzy VIKOR in selecting the appropriate rapid prototyping (RP) technologies in an agile environment was examined. Design/methodology/approach -Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) tool can be the best approach for selecting the RP technology because it can handle multiple criteria associated with the selection process. In the research reported in this paper, compromise-based MCDM ranking methodology, namely, Fuzzy VIKO… Show more

“…Because of such advantage, the use of the techniques to solve AM process selection issue has been gained importance and popularity during the past two decades [6]. A number of researchers, which include Braglia and Petroni [20], Xu et al [21], Byun and Lee [22], Mahesh et al [23], Wilson and Rosen [24], Rao and Padmanabhan [25], Armillotta [26], Borille et al [27], Lokesh and Jain [28], Rao and Patel [29], Zhou and Chen [30], Chakraborty [31], Khrais et al [32], Vahdani et al [33], Ic [34], Mahapatra and Panda [35], Roberson et al [36], Liao et al [37], Vinodh et al [38], Zhang and Bernard [39], Zhang et al [40], Mancanares et al [41], Kek [42], Zheng et al [43], Anand and Vinodh [44], uz Zaman et al [45], Wang et al [46], and Kadkhoda-Ahmadi et al [47] have successively presented their approaches in this period. The specific techniques adopted in these approaches, the data sources of the approaches, the way the approaches deal with the relative importance of the criteria for selecting AM processes, and the way the approaches deal with the interrelationships between criteria are summarised in Table 1.…”

“…For example, Van de Kaa, Rezaei, Kamp, and de Winter [ 8 ] applied both crisp AHP and fuzzy AHP methods to a standardization problem for photovoltaic technological systems. Vinodh, Nagaraj, and Girubha [ 9 ] used the fuzzy VIKOR method for evaluating rapid prototyping technologies in an agile environment. Liu, You, Lu, and Chen [ 10 ] proposed a novel hybrid MCDM model for selection of healthcare waste treatment technologies.…”

“…The VIKOR method has significant application in decision-making processes in the field of service quality, marketing, insurance, banking, and so on (Wu, Tzeng, & Chen, 2009;Fu, Chu, Chao, Lee, & Liao, 2010;Shaverdi, Akbari, & Tafti, 2011;Bazzazi, Osanloo, & Karimi, 2011;Yucenur & Demirel, 2012;Ramezaniyan, Kazemi, Jafari, & Elahi, 2012;Mohaghar, Faithi, Zarchi, & Omidian, 2012;Kumar, Singh, & Dureja, 2012;Chen, 2013;Vinodh, Nagaraj, & Girubha, 2014;Buyukozkan & Gorener, 2015). Wang and Pang (2011) have used the VIKOR method as the main device in ranking the service quality of three online auctions.…”
