Assessment of oxidative damage and lipid profile levels in tobacco chewers with Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract: Objectives: To assess oxidative damage and lipid profile levels in Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with or without tobacco chewing habit. Methods: Total of 141 newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with tobacco chewing habit from past >18 years were included, 136 Type 2diabetes mellitus without any tobacco chewing habit, 140 normal healthy subjects without any tobacco chewing habit were included in the study. Blood sample was collected after 8-12 hours fasting from each subject to estima… Show more

“…11 ATRA have ability to inhibit oxidative stress leads to decrease of reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress. 14 ATRA in combination with methotrexate and/or without actinomycin D may exert a strong proapoptotic effect on choriocarcinoma cells and prevent resistance to chemotherapy agents. 15 In addition, ATRA treatment of BeWo cells reduced telomerase activity, which is important in the apoptotic process and inhibition of tumor growth.…”

“…Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and impaired carbohydrate metabolism, fat, and insulin resistance, and it becomes one of the causes of death in the world 4 . Hyperglycaemia convinced the characterize depressed oxidative aim to assist the development of organ failure and lead in to complication of DM 5 . Foot ulcers Diabetic (DFU) is the most serious complication of DM and the main cause of nontraumatic leg amputation 6 .…”

“…Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a carrier of electron and proton in mitochondrial respiratory chain and participates in cellular aerobic energy production. On the other hand, CoQ10 has some antioxidant property and acts as a non-enzymatic antioxidant that protects the body against damages by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and also restores other antioxidants 3,4 . It has been shown that CoQ10 synthesis is reduced in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) which leads to increase ROS production and mitochondrial dysfunction.…”
