Biogas from Palm Oil Mill Effluent: Characterization and Removal of CO2 using Modified Clinoptilolite Zeolites in a Fixed-Bed Column

Abstract: The main focus of this article was to investigate the potential of natural zeolite adsorbent for the removal of CO 2 and H 2 S in biogas produced from palm oil mill effluent (POME) in fixed-bed column adsorption. The effects of the flowrates and dosage of the adsorbent on the CO 2 adsorption were also studied. The surface area of the adsorbent was determined using the Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller (BET) model, while the pore size distribution was calculated according to the Barrett, Joyner, and Halenda (BJH) mo… Show more

“…Recently, researchers have reported the results of applying a fixed-bed column for biogas purification using simultaneous absorption and adsorption methods (Kusrini et al, 2016;Kusrini et al, 2017). However, the effects of acid/base treatments and the concentration of chitosancoated clinoptilolite zeolite have not been reported.…”

“…The physico-chemical properties of clinoptilolite zeolites can be modified via thermal and chemical treatments (Kowalczyk et al, 2006). This study used biogas produced from POME; it added 10% cow feces to activate using anaerobic digestion (Kusrini et al, 2016). Anaerobic digestion is the biological process by which microorganisms break down POME in the absence of oxygen.…”

“…TiO2, CdO, and ZnO have been successfully synthesized by an ion exchange method using NaY zeolite as a host (Zhao et al, 1996). The use of clinoptilolite natural zeolites as host materials for biogas purification was reported by Kusrini et al (2016). Efforts to utilize Indonesian natural zeolite for catalysis applications were made by Hidayat et al (2018).…”
