Canine Parvovirus: Strain Difference in Haemagglutination Activity and Antigenicity

Abstract: SUMMARYCanine parvovirus (CPV) strains were compared for haemagglutination (HA) activity and antigenicity and were divided into two types by HA activity. Strains Cp49 and 29-F showed temperature-dependent HA, like feline panleukopenia virus (FPLV) and mink enteritis virus (MEV), whereas strains Sp-80 and Y-1 showed temperatureindependent HA with erythrocytes from eight species of animals. The results of a cross HA inhibition test using immunized rat sera suggested that of the two types of CPV those showing tem… Show more

“…All virus types hemagglutinate erythrocytes from a variety of species at 4°C in buffers with pH values below 7.0 (Johnson, 1971;Goto et al, 1974;Goto, 1975;Mochizuki et al, 1978;Senda et al, 1988). FPV and MEV isolates hemagglutinated pig or rhesus monkey erythrocytes only at pH values below 7.0, and the pH optimum for most strains is below pH 6.6 (Carmichael et al, 1980;Moraillon and Moraillon, 1982).…”

“…On the other hand, Mitra et al [6] reported that two antigenically indistinguishable strains of RV have distinct in vitro host cell specificity and in vivo pathogenic properties. In canine parvovirus (CPV), Characterization of newly isolated rat viruses UT-1 and UT-2, and RV-13 were examined for cross reaction in HI, ELISA and neutralization test a HI titer was expressed as the reciprocal of the highest serum dilution which hemagglutination was completely inhibited b ELISA titer was expressed as the reciprocal of the highest serum dilution resulting in, at least, a 0.2 difference in OD values between the test serum and control serum at 492 nm c Neutralization titer was expressed as the reciprocal of the highest serum dilution that showed complete inhibition of hemadsorption in at least 2 of 4 wells 119 Senda et al [9] described that temperature-dependent HA of CPV has varied in nature during the past several years. Our data suggested that RV also might yield variant types of HA accompanied with little change of antigenicity.…”

“…Пар-вовирус собак (CPV), штамм «Лайка-1993», выделенный в ГНЦ ВБ «Вектор», культивировали на клетках MDCK в соответствии с рекомендациями [12]. Титр вируса опре-деляли в реакции гемагглютинации с использованием эритроцитов макак-резус, как описано ранее [13].…”
