CD61, CD31, and CD34 Improve Diagnostic Accuracy in Gastric Antral Vascular Ectasia and Portal Hypertensive Gastropathy

Abstract: Portal hypertensive gastropathy (PHG) and gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) are unusual but important causes of gastrointestinal bleeding with characteristic endoscopic appearances and critically different therapies. However, overlapping features and poor endoscopic-histologic correlation make their distinction challenging. We sought to determine whether CD31, CD34 (vascular markers), and CD61 (platelet marker) could aid in their differentiation. Cases included 11 antral specimens with histologic diagnose… Show more

“…8,33,36,37 In addition, there is an opinion that CD34 is expressed in endothelial cells of small vessels, but not of large vessels. 36 Based on these observations, anti-CD34 antibody could be a sensitive marker to detect the newly formed vessels in cancer tissues.…”

“…13 The ACIS consists of an Olympus bright field microscope with five objectives (UPFL  4,  10,  20,  40 and  60), digital camera (CCD, Sony), an automated slide loading system for 100 slides and a PC. The ACIS technology automatically loads conventional IHC microscope slides for scanning at high resolution.…”

“…The standard microscopic characteristics of both include capillary ectasia, regenerative mucosal changes, and increased lamina propria smooth muscle, with the presence of fibrin thrombi being a cardinal attribute for GAVE [75]. Furthermore, GAVE appears to be characterized by more extensive ectasia, thrombi, and spindle cell proliferation.…”
