Constructing Landscape Ecological Security Patterns of an Ancient Capital Based on Cellular Automata Theory

Abstract: Urban sprawl in developing countries changes urban land use structure and function, and threatens the sustainable development of regional ecology and security patterns of city landscapes. A new way to control urban sprawl is to develop a comprehensive landscape security plan, analyze factors influencing urban growth, optimize land use and demarcate a growth boundary. Here, we use Xi’an, China, as a case study to analyze scenarios of landscape security pattern and urban spatial control to explore urban spatial … Show more

“…The MCR model developed by Knaapen can be used to analyze the latent spatial distribution of ecological processes, which identifies landscape ecological SPs and provides corresponding guidance and design to maintain ecological courses [20]. Subsequently, with the assistance of cutting-edge technologies such as neural network CA models [21], the MCR model has been applied to strengthen national ecological security [22][23][24][25], rational land use expansion [26,27], land use evaluation [28], and tourism development [29][30][31][32].…”

“…Xuhui Wang et al constructed the ecological security model of ancient capital landscape based on cellular automata theory [ 15 ]. Alessandra Capuano explored more advanced Roman archaeological sites and urban sustainability based on sustainable concepts [ 16 ]. Janjira Sukwai used GIS and computer-generated 3D modeling to support a visual integrity assessment of change management in the Chiang Mai Historical City buffer zone [ 17 ].…”

“…While some patterns are based on the prediction rate of change, others rely on spatial patterns that focus on required data and validation strategies [53]. In recent years, some spatial models have combined remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GISs) to simulate and predict future scenarios of LULC [54], for instance, Markov chain [55,56], cellular automata-Markov (CA-Markov) [57], logistic regression [58,59], cellular automata model [60,61], SLEUTH model [62,63], and artificial neural network model [64,65]. Many studies in the literature have also separately applied the Fractal [66,67], CA-Markov [68][69][70][71] and ANN [72][73][74], logistic regression [75,76], and agent-based [77,78] models, which are popular in prediction studies for LULC.…”
