A Proa: Revista de Antropologia e Arte foi criada em 2008 por estudantes do Departamento de Antropologia da Unicamp, a partir do GESTAA (Grupo de Estudos de Antropologia e Arte), iniciativa discente do mesmo ano (TRALDI et al., 2019). Seu primeiro número foi publicado em 2009 e, desde então, muita coisa tem mudado de forma constante e surpreendente. Mesmo com o fim do grupo original e o desligamento dos fundadores da revista, a Proa teve continuidade nas gerações seguintes de estudantes do departamento, com uma rotatividade característica dos periódicos discentes.
