Current status and future developments of the ion beam facility at the centre of micro-analysis of materials in Madrid

Abstract: We report on the current status of the ion beam laboratory of the Centre of Micro-Analysis of Materials at the Autonomous University of Madrid. The 5 MV accelerator facility provides MeV ion beams of any stable element. Six main beam lines are under operation, allowing the analysis and modification of materials through ion beam methods. Although the most demanded ions are H and He for standard Rutherford backscattering spectrometry and particle-induced X-ray emission experiments, many other analytical techniqu… Show more

“…The implantations were performed at the CMAM microbeam line [17,18], using a focused 9 MeV 12 C +3 ion beam with a size of about 5 × 2 μm 2 and a beam current of about 200 pA. The sample was implanted in frontal geometry, and the scan was performed pixel-by-pixel using a home-made software.…”

“…The experiments were carried out at the Center of Micro-Analysis of Materials, using a 5 MV Cockcroft-Walton ion accelerator. 19 The sample, mounted in a 3 axes goniometer and tilted 20°in the standard symmetrical geometry, was analyzed with a collimated 25 MeV I 4+ beam, ensuring a large penetration depth. The telescope was placed at a 40°scattering angle and equipped with two carbon foil stations separated by 458 mm.…”
