Cylinder Head Design of Experiment by using the Wartsila Digital Design Platform

Abstract: Summary. Cylinder Head Design of Experiment (DOE) was carried out by using the Wärtsilä digital design platform. The overall goal has been to create a simulation process to perform a complete cylinder head thermal-structural calculation and create a DOE over that process to vary the inputs, the geometrical parameters under optimization, in a fully automatic workflow. The outputs, uploaded to the DOE activity, were used to rank the input effects on the output response, to capture response sensitivity to input c… Show more

“…By using this methodology, it is possible to find out the possible critical locations, identify reasons for failures in the existing components and make design changes to achieve better component lifetime. Finally, the analysis can be simplified in such a way that it is possible to achieve reasonably accurate results in a shorter time for a quick concept phase design [3,8].…”

“…Cylinder head simulations, as described in Leppänen et al [53] and Cattarinussi et al [71], are quite challenging due to combined low cycle-high cycle loading, as Kumpula et al [55] explain, and, for example, injectors will have their dedicated analysis as in Vuotikka et al [72]. Additionally, Nyberg et al [73] show some cast iron component study of the component explosion.…”
