Declarative Rules for Linked Data Generation at Your Fingertips!

Abstract: Linked Data is often generated based on a set of declarative rules using languages such as R2RML and RML. These languages are built with machine-processability in mind. It is thus not always straightforward for users to define or understand rules written in these languages, preventing them from applying the desired annotations to the data sources. In the past, graphical tools were proposed. However, next to users who prefer a graphical approach, there are users who desire to understand and define rules via a t… Show more

“…In this way, each block can process the incoming data by relying on a shared global RDF graph. All Chimera components use the RDF4J library 11 to process and handle RDF data and to operate on a Repository interface that can be in-memory, local or a proxy to a remote triplestore.…”

“…To make this transformation adaptable, transparent and reusable, a mapping document was created that contains rules on how each element in the JSON can be mapped on a corresponding semantic output value. The mapping document was created with YARRRML, a human-readable text-based representation that can be used to represent RDF Mapping Language (RML) rules [12]. A part of the YARRRML document is being displayed in Listing 1.1.…”

“…This solution has the advantage of using a very well-known syntax in the semantic web community and that its implementation is more efficient than RML main one (i.e., RMLMapper (https://github.com/RMLio/RML-Mapper)) (Lefrançois, Zimmermann & Bakerally, 2017). To offer a simpler solution for users of text-based approaches, YARRRML (Heyvaert et al, 2018) was introduced which offers a YAML based syntax and its processor (https://github.com/RMLio/yarrrml-parser) performs a translation to RML rules.…”

“…However, RMLEditor was neither compared with other similar tools nor RML with other languages. Heyvaert et al (2018) proposed YARRRML as a human-readable text-based representation which offers an easier layer on top of RML and R2RML. However, the authors did not present any evaluation of this language.…”
