“…Three principles but not mutually exclusive mechanism such as mortality of the genotype (Levine,1943; Weiner,1942; Aird et al,1953; Bandyopadhyay,1992a,b; Bottini et al,2001), distortion of segregation ratios (Hirzfeld and Zoborowski,1925; Kirk et al, 1955; Bottini et al,1998; Banerjee and Das,1986; Virdhi and Kaur,1998) and differential fertility of different genotypes (Matsunaga and Etoh,1958; Matsunaga and Hiraizumi,1962; Nag and Banerjee,1976; Schaap et al,1984; Berberovic et al,2004) were thought to be responsible for the maintenance of polymorphism (Solish,1969; Cavalli‐Sfroza and Bodmer,1971; Chester and Olsson,2001) in ABO blood group as genetic marker traits and as well as multiple polymorphisms in noncoding regions (Seltsam et al,2003). A number of studies worldwide (Levine and Rosenfield,1961; Hirazumi et al,1973; Gualtieri et al,1985; Bottini et al,2001) as well as in India (Chakravartti and Chakravartti,1978; Satyanarayana et al, 1998; Banerjee,1989; Bandyopadhyay,1992a,b; Bandyopadhyay and Ghoshal Roy,2002; Sharma and Kapoor,2004) on ABO blood groups with regard to the operational processes for selection has been demonstrated.…”
