Vpliv poobdelav na obarvljivost surovega in beljenega bombaža s kurkuminom in doseganje motivov s tehniko antotipije The infl uence of after-treatments on dyeability of raw and bleached cotton with curcumin, and visibility of anthotype produced motifs Izvleček V raziskavi je bilo proučevano barvanje surove in beljene bombažne tkanine z naravnim barvilom kurkuminom, da bi se izvedla starodavna in okolju prijazna tehnika razvijanja fotografi j, imenovana antotipija. Za izvedbo antotipije na bombažnih tkaninah različnih barv je bil kurkumin ekstrahiran s trdo in mehko vodo. Poleg tega so bile uporabljene različne poobdelave, npr. z železovim (II) sulfatom heptahidratom, cinkovim (II) kloridom in srebrovim nitratom, v alkalni kopeli in z drugimi naravnimi barvili (borovnico in malino). Barvne vrednosti CIELAB barvanih vzorcev so bile izmerjene z uporabo refl eksijskega spektofotometra. Določene so bile tudi svetlobne obstojnosti obarvanj, in sicer po standardni metodi v Xenotestu. Rezultati so pokazali, da poleg uporabe različnih kovinskih ionov, naravnih barvil in obdelave v alkalni kopeli vpliva na končni barvni ton tudi trdota vode. Dosežena so bila rumena, oranžna, rdeča in rjava obarvanja bombažnih tkanin. Poobdelava s kovinskimi ioni je izboljšala svetlobne obstojnosti obarvanj in takšni vzorci niso bili primerni za ustvarjanje motivov s tehniko antotipije. Najprimernejši vzorci za oblikovanje motivov po tehniki antotipije so bili surovi bombaž, barvan s kurkuminom, ter surovi in beljeni bombaž, poobdelan z barvilom borovnice in maline, saj je bil na teh vzorcih dosežen večji barvni kontrast med osvetljenimi in neosvetljenimi površinami tkanine. Textile wet processing utilizes a huge amount of water, and the discharged water contains a significant amount of salts used in the pre-treatment, bleaching, dyeing, and printing processes [1][2][3][4]. Hard water affects the dyeing process and, using optimized dyeing conditions, the adverse effect of water hardness can be avoided by chelating the metal ions contributing to hardness through sequestering agents, i.e., polyphosphates or amino carboxylic acids [5][6][7][8].Pol. Vol. 26, No. 2 (2017), 747-753 Original AbstractA laboratory-scale study was performed for fostering an eco-friendly approach by substituting synthetic colorant with natural plant extracts as dye source in the presence of hard water (prepared from NaHCO 3 , MgSO 4 , CaSO 4 , and KCl). The dyeing behavior of cotton fabric was analyzed using extract from Eucalyptus globulus and Curcuma longa. Alum and ferrous sulphate were used as mordanting agents to mitigate the hard water effect on dyeing properties. The color strength and fastness properties of dyed cotton were studied. The hard water badly affected the color properties of fabric dyed with natural dyes. Mordant lessened the adverse effects of hard water, but not satisfactorily. The sequestering agent proved to be significant in mitigating the negative effect of hard water on fabric dyeing. Moreover, water hardness also adversely affected the extraction of natural dyes from Eucalyptus globulus and Curcuma longa; however, dye exhaustion was improved by mordant and the sequestering agent. Results revealed that the negative impact of hard water on dyeing properties can be mitigated using a sequestering agent.

The dyeability of cotton fabric with turmeric extract in two concentrations (pale and dark dyeing) was studied using four diff erent mordants in low concentration (0.2 g/l). As mordants three metal salts were used as mordants (ferrous sulphate, aluminium sulphate and zinc chloride), and organic mordant tannin. The mordanting of cotton was performed before, during and after dyeing, namely by pre-, meta-, and post-mordanting application methods. Colour fastness of dyed samples to repetitive washing and hot pressing was also performed. The colour values of the dyed samples were measured on a refl ectance spectrophotometer. The results showed that the dyeability of the cotton with turmeric extract is greatly infl uenced by the used mordant and its application method. The highest dyeing uptake (dyeability) was achieved by pre-mordanting with aluminium sulphate. All the mordanted samples had improved colour fastness, especially those samples meta-mordanted with ferrous sulphate.
