Effect of Inhaled Tiotropium on Spirometric Parameters in Patients with Tuberculous Destroyed Lung

Abstract: BackgroundIn Korea, patients with destroyed lung due to tuberculosis (TB) account for a significant portion of those affected by chronic pulmonary function impairment. The objective of our research was to evaluate the efficacy of inhaled tiotropium bromide in TB destroyed lung.MethodsWe compared the effectiveness of inhaled tiotropium bromide for 2 months between pre- and post-treatment pulmonary function tests performed on 29 patients with destroyed lung due to TB.ResultsThe mean age of the total number of pa… Show more

“…On the other hand, another potent drug rapamycin, which is an immunosuppressant inhibiting the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, showed some unfavored effects such as augmenting LPS-induced lung injury [ 43 , 44 ], while it also reduced inflammation by inhibiting the NFκB-signaling pathway through the mTOR pathway. Lastly, as a clinically proven drug for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) [ 16 ] and asthma [ 45 ], there are several lines of evidence showing that tiotropium improved lung functions [ 46 ]. Therefore, we recommend that it is worthwhile to test whether tiotropium can alleviate the symptoms of COVID-19 and prevent disease progression.…”

“…Treatment of TOPD is no difference than treatment of COPD alone. Yum et al studied the efficacy of inhaled tiotropium bromide for 2 months period on 29 patients with tuberculous destroyed lungs. There was a significant improvement in FEV 1 and FVC value over baseline with tiotropium therapy.…”
