Effects of alkyl group and temperature on the interactions between furfural and alcohol: Insight from density and sound velocity studies

In this work, we reported the new experimental data of densities, speeds of sound, and refractive indices for four binary mixtures: {2-phenoxyethanol (2PhEE) + 1-propanol or 2-propanol or 1butanol or 2-butanol) over the entire composition range and at temperatures of (293.15, 303.15, 313.15 and 323.15) K and at pressure p = 0.1 MPa. From these experimental data, thermodynamics properties: excess molar volume, isentropic compressibility, deviation in isentropic compressibility and deviation in refractive indices were calculated. Excess molar volume, deviation in isentropic compressibility and deviation in refractive indices data have been correlated using the Redlich−Kister equation. From the obtained results, a discussion was carried out in terms of nature of intermolecular interactions and structure factors in these binary mixtures.

Experimental values of density and speed of sound for binary liquid mixtures of 2,5-dimethylfuran (2,5-DMF) with furfuryl alcohol (FA), methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), 1-butanol and 2-butanol and over the entire composition range of 2,5-DMF and at the temperature range of 293.15–323.15 K at 10 K intervals and at pressure p = 0.1 MPa were reported. Experimental data were used to assess the thermodynamics properties of studied mixtures. These properties were used to interpret the molecular interactions among component of liquids. The values of excess/deviation functions have been fitted to Redlich−Kister type polynomial equation. From the obtained results, a discussion was carried out in terms of nature of intermolecular interactions and structure factors in the binary mixtures.

The aim of this research is the experimental determination of density, viscosity, refractive index and speed of sound for binary mixtures of the ester ethyl acetate and alcohols. Experimental measurements were carried out for two systems with 1-propanol and 1-butanol at atmospheric pressure and in a temperature range 288.15 - 323.15 K. Results of experimental measurements were further used to determine excess molar volumes, viscosity deviations, refractive index deviations, and excess isentropic compressibility for each investigated mixture. These calculated data were correlated using the empirical Redlich-Kister equation. Positive values of the excess molar volume and isentropic compressibility appear for both analysed systems, while values of viscosity and refractive index deviations are negative. The structure and specific characteristics of different molecules in considered mixtures and determined non-ideal behaviour allow the insight into the possible type of interactions in the mixture, interstitial accommodation and structural effects.
