Effects of Intracerebroventricular Micro-injection of Kaempferol on Anxiety: Possible GABAergic Mechanism Involved

Abstract: Background and Objectives: Kaempferol (KM) is one of the most important plants with neuroprotection and analgesic effects. In addition, bicuculline (BIC) is a competitive antagonist of the GABAA ionotropic receptor (the most important targets of benzodiazepines and other anxiety suppressants). In this study, intracerebroventricular microinjection of KM on anxiety and its interaction with GABAergic mechanism were investigated in male rats. Materials and Methods: In this exploratory investigation, the male rats … Show more

“…The flavonols kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin also showed evidence for an anxiolyticlike effect. The mechanisms of action of these flavanols are uncertain; intracerebroventricular injection of kaempferol reduces anxiety-like behavior in male rats by a GABA A receptor-dependent mechanism (Zarei et al, 2021). However, intraperitoneal injections of these three flavanols failed to affect anxiety-like behavior, while administration per os decreased it, suggesting that these flavanols are pro-drugs which are metabolized before they reach the brain (Vissiennon et al, 2012).…”

“…In addition, its administration protected against Chlorpyrifos-induced oxidative stress and memory deficits in rats via GSK3β-Nrf2 signaling pathway and increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes and AChE ( Hussein et al, 2018 ). Furthermore, the intracerebroventricular Micro-injection of Kaempferol reduced anxiety through the GABAergic mechanism by binding to specific sites of benzodiazepines ( Zarei et al, 2021 ). However, in H 2 O 2 conditions, it was observed that the group received a 250 mg/kg dose of M. rotundifolia extract had significantly less locomotor activity.…”
