“…Vanadium also is a potent inhibitor of several phosphohydrolases, such as Na + K + -ATPase [8] and Ca 2+ -ATPase [9], an activator of adenyl cyclase [10] and a potent anticarcinogenic agent [11]. Some studies have been reported to reveal vanadium toxicity, including oxidative stress [12] and immunotoxicity [13] in rats and rabbits.…”

“…Vanadium pentoxide is eliminated in the urine with a half-life of 15-40hrs. Vanadium pentoxide caused significant increase in number of hypoploids cells (Migliore et al 1993), increase in DNA migration, (Rojas et al 1996), frequency of micronucleus formation in mice (Zhang et al 1993;Rivedal et al, 1990), irritation of eyes, respiratory tract and bronchospasm (Knecht et al 1992), neutrophills influx (Pierce et al 1996), an enlargement of spleen in rats and mice, increased leucocytes count and decreased phagocytes in these animals (Mravcova et.,al 1993),skeletal abnormalities, delayed ossification and decreased fetal body weight and length in developing fetus (Zhang et al 1993). However, there is paucity of information on the qualitative and quantitative effects of vanadium pentoxide especially in the hepatic and reproductive system.…”

“…The tolerance limits of the foreign ions are given in Table 1. In this reaction system, various oxidants such as CrO 4 2-, Fe 3+ and Ce 4+ interfere. Fe 3+ can be extracted by using methyl isobutyl ketone [21,22].…”

“…Recently, vanadium has been noticed as the index element in urban environmental pollution, especially air pollution [3]. Laboratory and epidemiological evidences suggest that vanadium may also play a beneficial role in the prevention of heart disease [4]. Shamberger [5] has pointed out that human heart disease death rates are lower in countries where more vanadium occurs in the environment.…”
