Efficacy of Panchatikta Ghrit Guggul in the Management of Mandal Kushtha With Special Reference to Psoriasis

Skin disorders are major health issues in the present era. It is a multifaceted concept that includes the emotional, social, and economic impacts on individuals, their families, and society as a whole. As per Ayurveda, all skin disorders come under the broad term "Kushta" which is further divided into Mahakushta and Kshudra kushta. Mandala kushta which is described as one of the Mahakushtha finds similarity with psoriasis. Aim: The aim was to evaluate the efficacy of Virechana karma (purgation) and Shaman aushadhi in Mandal kustha. Material and Method: A 20-year-old female patient was presented with complaints of reddish-white lesion on behind left ear, bilateral upper and lower limbs and back region associated with including severe itching, sometimes bleeding from lesions on itching, burning sensation and white silvery scaling. She was treated with Shodhanartha Snehapana with Panchatikta Ghrita followed by Sarvanga Abhyanga with Neem taila and Sarvanga Swedana. She was given Virechana with Triphala Kwatha, Trivrita avaleha and Draksha kwatha. The Shamana Chikitsa included Gandhak rasyana - 250mg, Kaishor guggulu - 1gm, Panchtikta ghrita guggulu 1gm, Brihat dantaphala taila for L/A for 1 month. Result: The results of the treatment are recorded as a photographic document. As per the result lesions of the skin became lighter in colour and scaling was completely gone. Conclusion: With the help of Ayurvedic treatment we can completely cure this disease with proper medication and diet management.

All skin conditions are classified as "Kushta" in Ayurveda, which is further divided into Mahakushta and Kshudra Kushta. Vicharchika is explained by Acharya charak in Kshudra kusta. In Ayurveda, Vicharchika is a Rakta Pradoshaja Vikara, involving three Doshas with Kapha predominance. A patient of 40 years, old man consulted in OPD of Kaya Chikitsa department, Sir Sundarlal Hospital, IMS, BHU. Patient was presented with complains blackish reddish patches with tearing of skin along with burning sensation and itching on both the hands with involvement of fingers since 8 yrs. Patients was treated on line of Rakta Pradoshaja Vikara and Dosha dominance. Patient was givens Saman aushadi like- Aarogyavardhini Vati, Kaishor Guggulu, Panchtikta Ghrit Guggulu, Patolakatukrohini Kashaya and Lepa of Sidharthak Churna with water and 2 sitting of Jalaukavacharan. The results of the treatment are recorded as a photographic document, As per the result lesions of the skin became lighter in colour and erythema and itching was completely gone. With the help of Ayurvedic treatment we can completely cure this disease with proper medication and diet management.

Effectiveness of Vamana Karma in Kitibha Kustha with special reference to Psoriasis – A Case Study

Any disease pertaining to skin causes adverse impact on psychological and social well-being results in depression, social isolation, loneliness and reduce quality of life. WHO has classified skin diseases a psycho-cutaneous disease which emphasizes the relation between skin and psyche. Hence skin ailments are given high priority by the patients. Skin diseases are commonly observed thanks to altered lifestyle including improper and altered food habits, mental stress, improper sleeping habits and poor hygiene. In Ayurveda, the majority the skin diseases are incorporated under Kustharoga and are classified as Mahakustha (major skin disorders) and Kshudra kustha (minor skin disorders). Kitibha kustha is explained under Kshudra kustha in Ayurvedic Samhitas. The signs and symptoms of Kitibha kustha are same as that of psoriasis explained in modern science. Aim: The aim was to gauge the importance of Vamana karma (bio-purificatory measures) in Kustha. Materials and Methods: A male patient aged 18 years presented with the signs and symptoms of slightly raised well-defined brownish patches over upper middle back, behind both ears and around both alar nasal sulcus associated with itching diagnosed it as Kitibha kustha and was treated with Vamana karma (emesis) followed by prior Deepan karma and Bahya & Abhyantar snehan (internal & external oiling) followed by Swedan (fomentation). Results: At the conclusion of Vaman, Pittantik vamana was achieved. Patient had significant relief from Kandu (itching), scaling and reduction of erythema after the procedure. Photographic changes were kept for comparison. Conclusion: This present case study revealed the importance of Vamana karma in Kitibha kustha (Psoriasis).
