Environmental problems are frequently caused by a lack of caring and awareness on human's part. Education has made efforts to play an important role to generate people's awareness and caring towards betterments of environments. Environmental education has to be initiated to set on children in their early age through appropriate approach with developmental characteristics and the principles of learning for children. Various approaches and strategies are the teachers to choose to facilitate the learning to gain environmental awareness on the children's part. Research-based project approach is one of the appropriate approaches to implement environmental education. The aim of the present article writing is to discuss environmental education through research-based project approach. The discussion is focused on environmental education concepts and research-based project approach set for early childhood education.

This study aims to analyze the students who have started first grade after finishing the preschool period in relation to their extent of knowledge, awareness and attitudes about recycling within the context of environmental education. The study also focuses on whether or not there are differences especially between students who have received preschool education and those who have not. Causal-comparative relationship was used in this study. The study was carried out with 120 first grade students at six different primary schools in the city center of Kilis. As the data collection tool, a questionnaire including open ended questions was used in the study. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive content analysis methods. Results showed that almost all of the students claiming to know the meaning of the recycling sign proved to be those who had preschool education. In general, results of this research show that first grade students who had preschool education developed higher awareness and attention on recycling compared to those who did not have preschool education. It can be concluded that having preschool education are important for development of first grade students' knowledge, awareness and attitudes towards recycling and environmental friendly attitudes.

The purpose of this study is to determine the level of awareness and attitudes towards environment of pre-school children's and their teachers' and to examine the relationship between them. This study was based on correlational research model. The study group consisted of 26 pre-school teachers working in kindergartens and primary schools in a province, and 208 children in the 5-6 age groups in which these teachers entered their classes.
