Environmental Monitoring of Soils of Post-Industrial Mining Areas

Abstract: The ecological situation in most mining regions of Ukraine is critical, and the closure of unprofitable mining enterprises, mines and cuts creates the environmental problems associated with significant changes in the geological and hydrological environment. The purpose of the work is the environmental monitoring of heavy metals in the soils in the territory of Rozdil State Mining and Chemical Enterprise (SMCE) "Sirka" at the stage of liquidation. The object of the study involves the heavy metals in soils in the… Show more

“…Taking Rozdil SMCE "Sirka" as an example, they demonstrated the main problems of monitoring systems on the territory of mining and chemical enterprises during the liquidation phase. ey also assessed the impact of mining and chemical companies on environmental pollution status (soil, water environment, and waste management status) [5]. Krasovskyi et al explored the development of modern information technology to identify the location and consequences of amber production in western Siberia based on satellite environmental monitoring methods and GIS tools [6].…”

“…The half-century history of sulfur deposit development, sulfur ore enrichment, mineral fertilizer production, as well as the complex financial and economic condition of the enterprise in the last 20 years, was accompanied by a variety of negative environmental consequences: creation of deep quarries, accumulation of overburden dumps, beneficiation waste, import of dangerous industrial of waste, arrangement of returnable water sedimentation tanks and landfills on the shore of the reservoir, contamination of soils, underground and surface waters with acidic effluents, atmospheric air with hydrogen sulfide (Pohrebennyk et al, 2020). The vast majority of all solid industrial waste of the Lviv region is accumulated here -more than 100 million tons of: sulfur ore enrichment tailings, phosphogypsum, Hungarian tars, and lump sulfur (Pohrebennyk et al, 2019).…”

“…Intensification of technological processes while reducing energy consumption is one of the principles of eco-friendly technologies of modern production. The concept of sustainable development and the implementation of green technologies are leading in the development of European countries (Bezsonov et al, 2017;Ishchenko et al, 2019;Hlavatska et al, 2021;Mitryasova et al, 2017;Pohrebennyk et al, 2019, Petrov et al, 2020. Under the conditions of the modern development of production, with a constant decrease in resources, there is a need for optimization of differences in technological process requirements and supporting resources environmental security.…”
