Evaluation of comparisons of absolute gravimeters using correlated quantities: reprocessing and analyses of recent comparisons

Abstract: Due to the lack of a natural reference for the absolute acceleration of free fall and gravity, absolute gravimeters are compared at international comparisons, where the gravity reference is realized based on a set of precise absolute measurements and the functional model for their processing. The main estimates of comparisons, specifically, the reference values, deviations of gravimeters (biases) and associated uncertainty estimates, are obtained by the method of constrained least squares. In this paper, based… Show more

“…), Germany. The different CRVs solutions are presented by [23] for ECAG2003, [24] for ECAG2007, and by [25] for the others. Shortly after the comparison in 2003, an instrumental instability was detected and eliminated: the input beam fiber was only poorly attached to the interferometer base and started to loosen.…”

“…The FG5 [4] and FG5X [5] types of gravimeters (FG5/X), the most accurate commercially available absolute gravimeters at present, follow this concept and they use Winters Electro Optics (WEO) He-Ne laser stabilized to an iodine transition. The FG5/X gravimeters, reaching an uncertainty of about 2-3 µGal, dominate in the comparisons [6] organized under the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) mutual recognition arrangement (MRA). Thus, it is important to analyse potential systematic errors of these types of gravimeters and carefully elaborate the associated uncertainty budget.…”

“…High-precision gravity data is of great significance for research in many fields [1][2][3]. The gravity datum and its change reflect the gravitational force received by a sampling mass at the measurement point, caused by the mass distribution, which contains valuable information.…”
