Evaluation of effect of alcoholic extract of heartwood of Pterocarpus marsupium on in vitro antioxidant, anti-glycation, sorbitol accumulation and inhibition of aldose reductase activity

Abstract: Rising popularity of phytomedicines in various diseased conditions have strengthened the significance of plant-research and evaluation of phytoextracts in clinical manifestations. Pterocarpus marsupium Roxb., a medicinal plant, known for its anti-oxidant and anti-diabetic activity is a rich source of phytochemicals with antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic activities. However, its possible role in diabetic complications is not evaluated yet. The present study explores the possible role of alcoholic extract… Show more

“…Post incubation period, 200 μL of Greiss reagent was added and the absorbance was read at 546 nm. The percentage of nitric oxide scavenging potential was calculated using the formula = (1-(Abs (546 nm) of the sample/ Abs (546 nm) of the control)) × 100 [40]. Ascorbic acid at a concentration of 50 μg mL − 1 was used as a positive control.…”

“…Based on the literature, synthesis of MgO-NPs with neem leaves [34], Parthenium [35], citrus lemon extract [36], Brassica oleracea, and Punica granatum peels [37] are available. Biological nanoparticles have been found safe, ecologically responsible, cost-effective, and ensures the complete removal of toxic chemicals [38]. Therefore, the green synthesis is still an unexplored area to achieve MgO-NPs, and it provides numerous research possibilities.…”

“…Different parts of medicinal plants were investigated in order to find out its anti-cancer agents [2] . The anti-oxidants present in the medicinal plants was possibly responsible for the anticancer activity [3] . Likewise, P.sapota is a well-known fruit crop not majorly investigated for its medicinal and biological properties.…”
