Careers are a reality of life that need to be considered as multi-dimensional in today’s modern societies. Choosing a career is a complex process that coincides with high school and university ages, creating psycho-social stress. Considering the literature, the effects of different environmental factors have been revealed in separate studies. This study examines both individual and environmental factors together. By adopting a quantitative research method, we collected cross-sectional data through online questionnaires from 1130 university students. The association of family influence and academic satisfaction with happiness through career decision self-efficacy was meaningful using gender, age, income, and parents’ education as control variables. Family influence and academic satisfaction were positively correlated with career decision self-efficacy and happiness. In conclusion, we found that family influence and support, students’ work, and academic satisfaction are positively significant in terms of the career process and happiness. It was understood that the career reality should be considered with a holistic view that includes family, school, and work experience.

<p>Dewasa ini siswa harus berhadapan dengan keadaan untuk mempersiapkan dan memilih karier. Generasi Z saat ini tumbuh kembang bersama dengan perkembangan teknologi informasi yang semakin pesat. Munculnya pekerjaan-pekerjaan baru tentunya disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan dunia saat ini. Dalam pemilihan karir terdapat salah satu aspek yang dapat mempengaruhi seseorang dalam pengambilan keputusan, yaitu karakteristik kepribadian individu. Karakteristik generasi Z mampu memanfaatkan perubahan teknologi dalam berbagai sendi kehidupan mereka. Tujuan penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk menganalisis perspektif Holland (RIASEC) yang digunakan dalam pemilihan karir generasi Z. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kepustakaan (library research). Penelitian ini menganalisis sejauh mana teori Holland dapat digunakan untuk membantu siswa dalam memilih karir. Tipe-tipe kepribadian dipengaruhi oleh factor bawaan diri sendiri dan lingkungan. Berdasarkan analisis yang dilakukan peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa SMA yang tergolong sebagai generasi Z semakin mantap mempersiapkan transisi dari sekolah ke kerja dan meningkatkan peluang mereka untuk menemukan pekerjaan berkualitas menggunakan perspektif Holland.</p>

Adolescence is a period where youngsters still do not know much about themselves. That makes some decisions, like those concerning vocational elections, a complicated issue that has important consequences for their life. The main goal of this piece of research is to measure implicit interests using a situated, unobtrusive computer tool (PrUnAs: Preferences Unobtrusive Assessment) as well as its connection with anxiety and personality traits: neuroticism, extraversion, self-efficacy, optimism, consciousness, and openness. Sample: 304 16-year-old adolescents enrolled in the last course of compulsory education. Instruments: Computer programs were used to measure implicit interests, career preferences, and to self-descript personality traits; finally, the paper-and-pencil test Stai was applied to measure anxiety. Results: Concordance between implicit interests and explicit choices was less than 50%. The software developed for assessing implicit interests not only proved to be an efficient tool to make them arise but also a good predictor of anxiety. Conclusions: Implicit interests and explicit elections are not the same. The approach from implicit preferences is an important shift in the approximation to vocational guiding and to reduce youngsters’ indecision level. Beyond vocational choice, this information may improve the short- and long-term quality of life and mental health.
