Communities in the surrounding area of Mount Halimun Salak National Park (MHSNP) actively involved in maintaining the preservation. One way is through the use of medicinal plants in the Utilization Zone of MHSNP. The purpose of this study is to determine the economic benefits of medicinal plants through agroforestry for the community in the area. The research was carried out in Gunung Malang Village, Sub-District Cikidang, Sukabumi Regency.The survey method was conducted using interviews with 30 respondents, was selected purposively. The vegetation data obtained in from the analysis the Importance Value index (IVI). The results of IVI, there are 8 types of vegetation at the tree level. Rubber plants with IVI of 181.84%, density of 875 trees/ha and Schima wallichii Korth with IVI of 19.39%, density of 50 trees/ha are the dominant species. Most respondents (62.5%) planted cardamom and ginger. Under tree stands of 250 trees/ha, respondents' income from cardamom was USD 210/ha/year and ginger was USD 208/ha/year. The number of trees planted did not correlate significantly with the production of medicinal plants (p<0.05). Community involvement in the utilization of medicinal plants in MHSNP has significant effects in increasing the income of forest communities. The concept of green marketing is supported by internal and external components, respondents influence internal components as production while suppliers are on external components.

The dependence of communities in and around forest areas on natural resources is still very high. The form of interaction is the use of timber and nontimber forest products. This interaction determines and reflects the dependence of the community on the forest. This research aims to determine factors that influence people's interaction patterns in Dongi-Dongi towards the forest and the pattern of their interaction on forest resource management in Dongi-Dongi, Sigi District, Central Sulawesi. The method of the research was conducted by collecting primary data and secondary data. Primary data includes age (X1), an education level (X2), number of family dependents (X3), and income (X4) for 35 respondents and then analyzed using Binary Multiple Regression with SPSS software program to identify factors that influence interaction patterns. Qualitative descriptive was conducted to see patterns of community interaction. The results of data analysis showed that R2 (adjusted R2 squared) obtained a value of 0.843, meaning that 84.3% of forest resource management activities were caused by three variables, the t-test on education (0.024), number of dependents (0.007), and income (0.037). Furthermore, the interaction of people in Dongi-Dongi in managing forest resources tends to show a pattern of extraction interaction: the use of forest resources according to their needs, manages wisely and tries to improve and restore its function.

FACTORS INFLUENCING FARMERS DECISION IN COMMUNITY-BASED FOREST MANAGEMENT PROGRAM, KPH CIAMIS, WEST JAVA. Community Based Forest Management program through Pengelolaan Hutan Bersama Masyarakat (PHBM) scheme has been implemented in Perhutani forest in Java since 2001. The program has been developed to alleviate rural poverty and deforestation as well as to tackle illegal logging. However, there was very limited information and evaluation on activities of the program available especially in remote area/regencies, including Ciamis. This paper studies the socioeconomic, geographical and perceptional factors influencing farmers decision to join PHBM program, farmers selection criteria for the crops used in the program, and farmer decision to allocate their time in the program. It also examines the costs and income related to the program and how the program land was allocated between different farmers groups and within the farmers groups as well as the perceptions of the state company's (Perhutani) staff members on the program. Deductive approach was used with quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires from 90 respondents at three farmer groups from 3 villages, 30 respondents of each group respectively. Cross tabulation and descriptive statistical analysis were used to analyse quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected through interviewing of 9 key informants, three informants of each farmer group respectively, and two Perhutani's staff. Results showed that PHBM program contributed to about 26.9% to community's monthly income. The program introduced benefit-sharing system and accommodated community initiatives. Perhutani's support was illustrated by freedom of choice of community in selecting the sharing area (land allocated for farmer to manage) and the planted crops. Factor influencing farmers' decision in selecting the sharing area was geographic conditions, in selecting the crops was farmer skills, and in allocating working time was farmers' priority.
