“…Within the new non-halogenated FRs, researchers have proposed different types including red phosphorus [5], magnesium hydroxide [6,7], boron [8], organoclay nanocomposites [9,10], glass-fiber [11,12], silicon [13], multiwall carbon nanotubes composites [14][15][16], carbon fiber [17], and melamine-based products [18][19][20] in various combinations. Phosphorus-based FRs are among the most efficient and versatile flame retardants, and most of them can act through a combination of vapor-(inhibition of active species in gas phase) and condensed-phase reactions (promotion of the polymer carbonization and char formation) [21,22].…”

“…For PA6 combined with modified layered silicates like organo-modified montmorillonite (OMMT), the results showed an increase for the LOI of 21.0% for PA6/ OMMT6% samples to 36.0% for PA6/OMMT2%/ABPA10% [110]. As for PA6/GF composites, the synergy between ABPA and monoisobutylphosphinic acid was demonstrated by the reduced pHRR (288 kW/m 2 ), increased LOI value (34.0%) and V-0 classification in the UL-94 test [111].…”

“…Braun et al [10,11] investigated that glass-fiber-reinforced polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) with a 13-20 wt % loading range of aluminum diethylphosphinate fulfilled the flame-retardant requirements (a UL94 V-0 rating and a limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of >42%). Hu et al [12] used the mixtures of aluminum salts of both diisobutylphosphinic acid and monoisobutylphosphinic acid (HPA-2TBA-Al) as flame retardants for glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide 6 (GFPA6). The GFPA6/25% HPA-2TBA-Al composite achieved a V-0 rating in the UL 94 test and had an increased LOI value of 34.0%.…”
