Formulation of Curcumin as Natural Dye on Polyester

Abstract: Turmeric is perennial herbs that has been used for centuries as natural dye in the Asia. It contains curcumin that generate yellow to orange color. Unfortunately, curcumin is considered as fugitive dyes because its color strength will diminish within times. In order to strengthen the color of curcumin, some additives are added into dye formulation. In this research, turmeric juice was extracted from turmeric without adding any organic solvents. The juice was then mixed with mordant and emulsifier to produce dy… Show more

“…To compare and measure the color strength of the dyed fabrics, their reflection at the wavelength corresponding to the maximum absorbance was measured using a reflective spectrophotometer (Color Eye, 7000 A) equipped with a D65 illuminant and a 10° standard observer. The relative color strength (K/S value) was established according to the following Kubelka–Munk [equation (4)], where K, S and R stand for the absorption, scattering and reflectance coefficients at the maximum absorption wavelength (530 nm), respectively (Ramadhany et al , 2019): …”

“…Despite it benefits for human life, it can be of adverse effects for the ecosystem. The production of large amounts of nonrenewable materials such as synthetic dyes and fabrics induces devastating waste and pollution (Ramadhany et al , 2019).…”
