Funktionelle Glaukomdiagnostik

Abstract: Achromatic perimetry is the gold standard in glaucoma diagnosis for detecting functional defects from glaucomatous optic neuropathy. Because achromatic perimetry is only able to detect scotomas after loss of up to 30-40% of retinal ganglion cells, early diagnosis using this method is rarely possible. Therefore, a lot of new perimetric procedures have been developed in recent years to detect new scotomas at a very early stage. This review summarizes the theoretical background of retinal ganglion cells in order … Show more

“…29 Multiple studies have reported higher sensitivity when detecting early primary open-angle glaucoma using flicker perimetry. 24,30,31 In the present study, this perimetric strategy was not sufficiently sensitive to detect VF disturbances revealed by SWAP in RA patients. This may be attributable to a greater overlap of the tested cellular pathways and therefore elevated redundancy potential in flicker perimetry.…”

“…21,22,23 Due to the specific stimulus, the main advantage of this method is the early detection of functional disturbances (3-5 years in advance of SAP). 24,25 The main disadvantages of SWAP compared with SAP are that localised scotoma are detected less precisely, examination time is longer and results are more age-dependent. 26 Finally, the results from flicker perimetry did not demonstrate significant changes in perimetric indices between the groups.…”
