Hepatoid adenocarcinoma arising from heterotopic pancreas of the ileum

Abstract: Introduction:Hepatoid adenocarcinoma (HAC) is a rare neoplasm with a striking morphologic similarity to hepatocellular carcinoma. The most common sites of HAC are the stomach, lung, and pancreas.Case report:Here we report a rare case of HAC arising from the heterotopic pancreas (Heinrich type II) in the ileum with lymph node metastasis. A 56-year-old man was admitted to our hospital presenting with bloody stools under no obvious predisposing causes. The colonoscopy and the gastroscopy showed no pathological fi… Show more

“…HAC is more likely to occur in gastrointestinal (GI) tract organs such as the stomach, esophagus, biliary tract, and pancreas, among which the stomach is the most commonly identified site, due to the fact that the gastric system and liver are derived from the same part of the embryo [ 4 , 5 ]. Nevertheless, sporadic cases of HAC originating from the intestines have been reported in the literature [ 6 8 ].…”

“…Most tumors have metastasized at diagnosis with a poor prognosis due to their aggressive behavior (1,2). Hepatoid adenocarcinoma(HAC) has been reported to occur in the stomach (3), esophagus (4,5), duodenum (6), jejunum (2), colon (7), peritoneum (8), pancreas (9)(10)(11)(12)(13), lung (14), ovary (15,16), gallbladder (17), uterus (16,18) and other sites (19). Of these locations, the stomach is the most common site of HAC.…”
