“…We previously identified extrasynaptic nicotinic and muscarinic receptors on the soma of command neurons LPa3 and PPa3 in edible snail [4,5]. These data indicate that nicotinic and muscarinic receptors are localized not only in the extrasynaptic zone of the membrane in command neurons of edible snail, but also in the subsynaptic region.…”

“…Extrasynaptic somatic cholinoceptors of the nicotinic and muscarinic types were pharmacologically identified. Muscarinic receptors differ from M1 and M2 subtypes [5]. Studies of the isolated soma of command neurons revealed cholinergic sensitivity of their somatic membrane [1].…”

“…Since defensive behavior command neurons of edible snail have both extrasynaptic [5] and postsynaptic [4,7] cholinoceptors, up-regulation of cholinoceptors recycling can increase the efficiency of interneuronal traffic for a short period during sensitization of the defensive reflex by elevation of sensitivity of the extrasynaptic and probably subsynaptic membrane regions to the neurotransmitter without synthesis of new transmitter receptors. This work was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, grant No.…”

“…Acetylcholine (Ach) was applied locally by ionophoresis to the dorsal surface of neuron soma at the rate of 10 -1 min. Transmembrane ionic current induced by local application of ACh (Ach-currents) were recorded [1,2,5,6].…”

“…The identification of CR on the soma of the RPa3 and LPa3 neurons was carried out with the aid of a larger number of cholinomimetics and cholinolytics, with the recording of transmembrane ionic currents by means of the method of two-electrode recording of the potential on the membrane [4]. The capacity of nicotinic (nicotine, cytisine) and muscarinic (muscarine, arecoline, pilocarpine, oxotremorine, and carbamyl choline) cholinomimetics to induce in a dose-dependant fashion the inward current of the RPa3 and LPa3 neurons of the snail offers the possibility of identifying the membrane centers bound by them on the soma as nicotinic and muscarinic.…”
