Implementation of Facility Management for Port Infrastructure through the Use of UAVs, Photogrammetry and BIM

Abstract: The maintenance of port infrastructures presents difficulties due to their location: an aggressive environment or the variability of the waves can cause progressive deterioration. Maritime conditions make inspections difficult and, added to the lack of use of efficient tools for the management of assets, planning maintenance, important to ensure operability throughout the life cycle of port infrastructures, is generally not a priority. In view of these challenges, this research proposes a methodology for the c… Show more

“…Port management reflects the characteristics of an integrated ecosystem ( García-Onetti et al, 2021 ), mainly devoted to analyzing the conflicts between natural environment and humankind, social environment and humankind, and public environment and humankind in the governance and management measures ( Cadoret, 2021 ). Hence, environmental assessment and environmental governance are the mainstream directions of previous research, and there have emerged numerous studies on the application of various management and measurement methods, route planning and design, which have been thoroughly studied and sorted out ( Jofré-Briceño et al, 2021 ; Aghalari et al, 2021 ; Polrot et al, 2021 ). However, with the advent of the post-COVID-19 era, people's use of the Internet has been further enhanced, and the management of public opinions has become increasingly prominent in port management.…”

“…This study aimed at adapting the currently available tools for management to a most conventional BIM methodology, incorporating activities for the conservation and maintenance of public works' assets such as the Algeciras Market Hall. This process of transferring the information of an inspection from the database (technical data sheet) to the 3D model was carried out with the management tool created with Dynamo, without the need to use any other software as can be seen in other references [21]. The code in Dynamo was carried out in relation to the following five attributes: severity and level of damage, observations, associate repairs, measurement and cost along with its location.…”

“…In the case of the use of UAVs and image capture, recreational and semi-professional drones may not be prepared to withstand rain, for example. Additionally, light conditions on a sunny or cloudy day may affect the quality of the images, so it is necessary to consider weather conditions when planning flights [55][56][57].…”
